Idle surge after pulling out of gear?
When I pull ut of a gear sometimes I get an idle surge of about 500 rpm. instead of it staying down at around 500rpm it will surge up to about 1000 then back to 500 then to about 750 then finally rests back at 500rpm. Any ideas what this could be? I have a tune from Ted at JRE ....could this be a tune problem? Please help.

Mine does something similar. When I am coasting down and I pop into neutral and let out the clutch - the rpms will blip up to about 1400 and then drop back down to my normal idle of 925 ( high idle because of cam). I've always chalked it up to a small quirk that comes with a cammed tuned car. It does it every time and only in the way I have mentioned it so it doesn't affect drivability or saftey ( I'm in neutral with the clutch out) so I just live with it. Not a biggie for me - just odd. My guess is that it is some time of brief conflict between the MAF and ECU.
note: Mine has been fully dyno and street tuned by Vengeance - and other than this one little oddity - it runs great!

I talked to a very reliable source and he said it was more than likely a vacuum leak somewhere.

The last time I had an idle surge such as this I found a vaccum leak in the intake. I have another one that is killing my MPG, but haven't found the source yet.

Wish I knew how to hunt vacuum leaks on a DIY basis. Im assuming I have one too as my true neutral coasting causes my idle to ramp up about 150-200rpm..

^^ Mine does too, after headers/CAI/Jannetty tune. Wondering if its a normal thing. Definitally a 100-200 rpm back and forth thingamajig happening after clutch is pressed in at stoplights.

Yep.. I find the same behavior with my LS3 and recent JRE 470 Cam with CIA with ported T Body fed by JRE Scoop headers and tune.
I am sure Ted will add his thoughts once he reads this I am thinking this is new behavior, could be related to the ported t body if anything at least in my case, I surely dont see this as a problem, just new behavior as result of the get gone goodies!! |

Mine also rev's up i never thought it could b a problem. Don't have anything from Ted. So it is not just his tune.

My car has always done it, bone stock except for a ported throttle body.

Common denominator it sounds like is the ported TB. Wondering if it could be the ported TB.

No ported TB here but I get the same thing. JRE cam and tune. I'll be lookin' for a vacuum leak tomorrow.

Mine bone stock didn't do it, addition of ported throttle body is when it began.

Every car does it. With a stock engine and mufflers I bet it goes unnoticed.
