Driveshaft for V6?

Just trying to get as much information as possible before I make a decision, and my knowledge in the 5th gen driveshafts is extremely limited. I have the SS (L99) rear end in my car. However I'm wondering if the driveshafts would bolt on? Obviously the rear end should be a direct fit, however I'm worried about the transmission side?

I'm looking into this particular driveshaft: http://www.driveshaftshop.com/domest...ece-driveshaft

Trans side is different, we can make the shaft using the 6cly front and the V8 back. shaft would be the same cost bout we should measure it to make sure its going to be the correct length.

Thanks for the quick response on both the form and email. What specific measurements do you need?

I was under the presumption the driveshaft is a two piece. You use one half from the v6 and the other from the v8. Is this correct???

yes that would work if you want to use Factory parts, i believe he wants an aftermarket shaft. What we would need is a dimension from the flat of the 3 finger mount on the trans to the flat of the 3 finger mount on the diff.

Correct, I'm looking for a 1 piece drive shaft. I'll see if I can get measurements. Who know's when that will be.

There already is a purpose built 6-cyl shaft by DSS... However, Baylor wants one for the 6-cyl front with the 8-cyl rear. As mentioned above normally you can split the driveshaft and use the 8-cyl rear portion. However, with a 1 piece shaft he would make it with 6-cyl front & 8-cyl rear (Tailshaft length/Splines are different between the two).

If anyone has a 6-cyl car with the 8-cyl rear be good to get a measurement on it. It might just be the same length, but remember with the slip joints of the stock driveshaft, it may be the improper length when you do the 6 to 8 swap, but the slip joints are taking up the slack in or out... Great question Baylor!

DSS FTW

Looks like we will be measuring Baylor's shaft today... Oh wait that didn't sound right

We'll have some measurements confirmed and I've already spoken to DSS so anyone that wants one you can PM me for pricing, lead times, questions!

Thanks guys,

Matt

I always use metric measurements when discussing such things...
sounds more impressive, and it's probably more precise!!

I've been running a one piece aluminum drive shaft from DSS for some time now. Makes the factory one look like it came out of a Honda. Very good quality product!
