I have the same problem on mine.

And since this is just emission stuff, that I don't need in MN, does anyone know how to remove all the emission crap

Could an aftermarket tune, clear the code for good ?

Mine was covered under my extended warranty, but my friend had the same issue, and did not have the extended warranty. We have the same amount of miles on our cars it went around 33,000 miles for both of us.

$430!

Well, looks like this evap canister is a very common problem. I've had my car for almost 2 years and now my check engine light is coming on. I had it checked and of course its the most expensive one to fix. No warranty grrr just so frustrating...

After reading all of your posts, I contacted Chevy customer service (800-222-1020). They were very nice, but said it wasn't covered, but they would try and work something out with the dealer to cover some of the cost. I should hear back in a few days, and I'll follow up to let you know how it goes.

In general, I've really enjoyed this car (bought it new), but seeing an emissions component that is clearly a defective design not be covered is very frustrating. Hopefully, they'll offer some help in getting this very common issue fixed.

Did you ever hear back from customer service? I am having the same problem so I was wondering if they were able to work with you at all.

I think I got the same problem on my 2011 LS (5yr, 45k mi).
Last week, I got a CEL, and I'm due for state vehicle inspection. Mechanic pulled P0449. Cleared it to make sure it wasn't a fluke. 100 miles later, the CEL stayed off, and I went to the DMV and passed inspection! Lucky me, today the CEL returned.
So, I think it's time to get that dealership quote... and probably a call to customer service as suggested.

Had this issue last week on my 2010 2LT RS. P0449 came on and I went to the dealer the day after. They ran a smoke test and also did a on /off command test to confirm it was the Vent valve and not the Purge valve. Quoted me $820 to repair/replace. Got in touch with GM custcare and they came though for me. Ended up paying only $400. I'm very happy. Dropped may car off at 7AM. Got it back by noon.

Just got my car back from the mechanic. Fixed P0449 by replacing the canister vent shutoff valve for $350. Told me that he had to drop the exhaust to reach the part.
BEWARE: At first, dealership offered to inspect the CEL for $120. Local mechanic plugged in the data reader and told me the CEL code for free in about 30 seconds.

I keep seeing people pay this on the 2012's yet I got a letter from GM stating that if it goes bad it is covered for 8 years or 120,000 miles. Might want to check into this so you are not paying for something you shouldn't have to.

Just an update on this. I got the P0449 and the dealer I brought it to said GM had special coverage for this so I am getting it fixed at no cost. My car is no longer under factory warranty. Its a '12 with 33K on it but its out of factory warranty due to the age of the vehicle.

Nice, can you find out if this includes the 2010 cars?

200 miles driven off the show room and check engine light comes on.

Just got this issue with my newly purchased 2015 Camaro with only 200 miles on. Such a joke. I feel like they should give me a another new Camaro since a car with 200 miles shouldn't have any issues. I'm just hoping this isn't sign to come. Now I'm out my car for 5+ days for the dealer to attempt to fix it. The fix envolves dropping the gas tank and exhaust according to the mechanic.
