Looking for input from ZL1 owners who track theirs on road courses.

I'm Interested to hear the positive and negative about the suspension, brakes, SC motor & tires while tracking your zl1 on a road course.

* If you did some modifications to your suspension, please let me know how it did improve it or not.
Thanks

These things are well prepared for road course work right out of the gate. One exception is the brake fluid. High temp brake fluid is a must if you are going to be doing road course work.

One of the first things I would look into is cooling. The computer is going to pull timing the more you run because of the heat.

right, that goes without saying for any car, anything more in depth as per parts?

If your car is stock boost wise and if you're only doing 2-5 laps at a burst (Depending on track and stuff) then you'll be fine with temps. Don't worry. However, if you're going to want to go for many laps in a row then you'll need to move up to a Heat exchanger upgrade.

I run between 5-6 courses a year in SoCal.

I lowered mine 1" and put adjustable camber plates for track days. You can see the full list of my mods below but the first thing is full brake bleed with DOT 4 Motul fluid 600.

The car is solid out of the box. Flush the brakes with some good DOT 4 and you can hit the track.

The next step beyond that are a set of dedicated track tires, as the stock Goodyear F1s are crap in cold weather, and I'm not a big fan of using my street tires on the track. I run 305/30R19 Hankook RS-3s on a set of Z/28 wheels, but there are plenty of other combos that are also proven. This combination provides more neutral handling characteristics, and also drops the car by an inch.

I have not found the suspension lacking, and thus have left it alone since I think it provides an outstanding compromise between handling and ride. Others who are well-respected will likely disagree with me and can provide specific suggestions.

The one area that has presented some challenges are the brakes; they were great when the car was stock, but now seem a bit insufficient after stuffing more tire under the car and then increasing the power by 35%. I'm sure that others feel differently, but I suspect that they drive differently than I do and on different tracks.

I just swapped the brake fluid for ate typ2000 dot4. No issues. Change tranny and diff fluid as recommended in the manual.

Car is pretty bulletproof. But I just track for fun so might not be pushing as hard as others here.

Start off with fresh fluids, and then go thrash the car for a while before thinking about other upgrades. It's remarkably good on the track when bone-stock, and 99% of the time, the driver will be the limiting factor. The car is fast enough that it takes considerable amounts of skill to exploit all the available performance. Save your pennies for track days, instruction, and lots of tires!

And how many track hours have you spent before making those changes?
