Help with header install

Hello,

I ordered these JBA long tubes and the mid pipes since I am keeping the stock mufflers. I will get new O2 sensors and get the GM factory gaskets instead of the ones provided. Is there anything else I am missing or need to install these on my car. 2012 LS3 SS.

I'd replace the spark plugs and wires but it looks like you've got the rest covered. Good luck!

Are these 1-3/4 or 1-7/8?

I reused the stock bolts and replaced gm gasket, plugs, wires and dei boots which came highly referred. probably want to save for the tune too. Antiseize can be handy to have around too.

Why get new O2s? Just soak em in wd40 the night before and unscrew then and then screw them into the new set up. That’s what I did

Agreed.

The chance of cracking a plug or 2 is pretty high if you leave them in, as the slightest bump from the headers and they are done for. If you are taking them out, why not just replace while you are in there?

I did not take off the spark plugs and didn't crack them installing the new headers, but one of my OEM plug wires ripped in half trying to unplug it so I replaced with MSD plug wires. I reused the OEM gaskets which has 65k on them and they are fine. You can reuse your old O2 sensors as others stated. Just soak them with PB blaster or you can torch the bung and crack them free. Lastly, make sure you bolt the headers in place before attaching the exhaust system. My dumb ass installed the exhaust to the headers first and that was a PITA to mount the headers lol.

Oh...and the dipstick. Make sure you disconnect the battery just to be safe.

Make sure you run a thread restorer in all bolt holes and bolts and use a good quality high temp anti seize. It makes things easier putting them back together.

Looks like they gave you 02 extension. I think you are good. Depending on mileage I'd say you can reuse gaskets and plugs. If higher mileage (imo) 50k +, replace gasket and plugs.

Twisted plug wire caps before removing, to unstick. A couple of turns on spark plugs then blow out with compressed air, wasn’t any crap in there but wanted to make sure.

Removed two rear O2 sensors while cats were hot. Soaked other O2 sensors with penitraiting oil. Removed cats. Sprayed sensors again. Went two work removing old manifolds and installing new ones. Went to pull O2s the next morning and gave up after applying a fair bit of force. Put some heat using propane torch around sensor base, not a lot, about how hot they would normally get. Both broke free easy then.

Put new gaskets, only have 14 k on my 13 SS but didn’t want to do the job twice because of a gasket leak.

High temp thread lock on manifold bolts, high temp anti seize on 02 sensors, dielectric grease on rubber parts of spark plug wires (not connection points).

Put old plugs back in. Do not put anti seize on spark plugs. Also there’s no gasket on plugs, thought that was was odd but is correct.

I removed the starter motor heat shield, made it easier to put the oil dipstick back in. You should unplug the battery beforehand. I had a spark reinstalling the heat shield. Coat dipstick O ring with oil before installing.

Bought an O2 sensor socket to ensure I had the correct torque when installing O2’s

I added plug wire heat shield on each wire to protect them from the headers and the heat they create. Stock wires were fine. O2 sensors came out of the old exhaust with out much trouble and I reused them.

So the mid pipes allow me to keep my stock cats correct? Or am I having to remove them and just use the mid pipes?

Mid pipes are in place of cats for a header install. If you want cats you would have to add them separately. Do you have a tune to turn off the CEL for the rear O2's?

I am already in touch with DynoSteve so I can get the most out of the headers and have no CEL. Thanks man!
