Depreciating value already?

Randomly found this on CL today when I typed in Camaro SS. It is a 2016 SS for 31k.

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/5858734938.html

This is what gets me...if there really is nothing wrong with this car, why the heck is it so low already? I couldn't open the Carfax on it but it does say 5 reports have been made on it. If this is legit, does it mean that dealers are already screwing Gen6 owners on their value? Im pretty sure the Gen5 had a couple years before dealers were selling them below value.

The second you drive these cars off the lot they lose 25 to 30% of their value.
After that they hold it pretty well.

Best bet, be the second owner.

yes,get a certified used one from chevy and get the bumper to bumper warrantee.when i bought mine the dealer had 15 gen 5 camaros on the lot.you didnt save a whole lot by getting an earlier one with more miles so i went for a barely used 2015 with 8,000 miles on it and was still under warrantee.

25-30% seems high but this is even more reason to not buy a new Camaro if 31k really is going to be a normal price for resale already. Take your 40k and buy a used C7 or C6z and you wont lose out for a long time.

Hardly any one wanted a 2016 when it was new so they will depreciate even faster than most cars used. Why do you think the 2017's have been out for months already and the 2015's ran production until Dec 2015?

Some members on Gen6 forum got their brand new 2016 1SS for $29,xxx so for a used one this is not a low price. In fact is a bit higher LOL. Some of the 2016 gets 20% off MSRP and a few even more as the dealers try to move the huge stock left as a result of much lower sales than expected. Great deals can be done if one can find a discounted Gen6 with the options he/she can live with.

okay so knowing the Gen6 SS are already going for low 30s and possibly high 20s with a good deal worked out...how many people are keeping their Gen5? For 30k you really get a lot of performance but lose in the looks. hmmmmmm

Bought it with no intention to ever sell it. However, with all the good deals floating around on the gen 6, decided to check one out recently. Drove both auto and manual black 1SS cars. My thoughts.....keeping mine reaffirmed.
Not knocking the gen 6 at all. It's a nice car. So is the 5th gen. The interior is nicer, but much smaller and less practical. I need the room with kids. The technology is cool but I bought mine because of its throwback, retro design. I also got it because of its looks which to me are just far cleaner and more timeless. Outside of the front end, I could not warm up to the looks. I also think once a gen 5 adds wheels and aero, it's about the meanest looking sob on the road.
The performance of the 6 gen is good. I feel I will be flamed but it honestly didn't feel world's faster than the ls3. FBO and geared ls3 SS felt slightly faster. Cammed gen 5 feels significantly faster. Easy to mod an lsx if that's your concern. Smaller and lighter yes, the small steering wheel helps with the handling feel some. I enjoyed the manual far more than the a8 as well. Almost felt like an MGW short shifter, good feel and rev match would be cool for traffic. Clutch very light. I'm biased to manuals, not drinking the a8 koolaid. These cars are not world's apart as some on the other forum would have you to believe. The stock gen 6 is slow just like the stock gen 5 or any other stock dd type cars. Their fun, sound good, look good but not fast IMHO. Quick on the street yes but anybody that's been on a bike or raced competitively would have a different perspective. I wouldn't trade the car solely for performance. But I'm also a Technician so I could care less about voiding my warranty when is time. Sorry for the long response.

If you don't want to take a huge hit you have to keep these cars for a few years.
I paid $38,000 MSRP for my fully loaded 2SS back in June of '09. It's still worth
about $18,000. $20,000 depreciation in 7 years = about $3,000 a year. Not bad
IMO.

Way way way too high, worth maybe $27k.

I had beads on both '16 and '17 loaded untitled 1SS/2SS's for $31k/$35k as of last week.

I see new 2SS advertised as low as 32k. Far more desirable IMHO.

Keeping mine. I've got too much happily sunk into it at this point (and more plans in the future) to bail out now for a 2017 1LE or anything.
