What's the best Cold Air Intake?
I just purchased my first Camaro 2 weeks ago and it just so happens to be a 2013 Black ZL1. I'm looking upgrade too a cold air intake from the stock intake and I was curious as to get your opinions on what the best intake would be to get the most RWHP and Torque. So far I have been investigating the following intakes.
Cold Air Inductions Roto Fab K&N Hennessy racing Airaid Please don't base your opinions on the price of the intake. I just forked out over 50k for a car and couple hundred bucks will not be the deciding factor in my decision. |

It's going to be hard to beat the roto fab. Fit, finish, hardware, instructions, and price is dialed in. I would buy it again if needed...

Waiting
Rotofab is a great product, plus it has carbon fiber option and other colors for great under hood appearance. It has also been reviewed by many and does not require a tune.
I haven't seen anyone yet evaluating the CAI unit and whether there are any issues such as initiating a CEL with use under various conditions or whether there is a great difference in HP and T from Rotofab. So I decided to wait and see what the verdict is after the CAI unit is installed on a number of ZL1s and if there are any issues. Jennetty Racing has a no tune upgrade with Rotofab and pulleys, don't know if a similar no tune option will work with the CAI unit. But both look like great options, though. I had Air Raid on my 2 SS/RS and it was great but requires a tune on ZL1, thus could affect the warranty.

I have the CAI unit on mine. I've had it since April 2011. I've had no issues with it (no CEL codes). The only drawback with this unit is that it is a closed unit, meaning you'll have to take the cover off to clean or replace the filter.

For the ZL1 the best intake IMO is the Rotofab
Absolutely love mine, great power gains with no tune required, fit and finish is superb and it really brings out that supercharger whine!

What are the Pros and cons of needing the tune? If I get a CAI kit that does not require a tune vs one that needs a tune for the same HP I would prefer the one that does not need a tune. Question: If I do a tune will I void the warranty?

And don't let anybody tell you that you can get it tuned "and put it back stock to take it to a dealership", cause the ECM records lots of data, including when anything has been changed, CEL hx, etc. Apparently it even records how you drive it in the first 1500 miles. |

Funny you mention that because a guy at the dealership said he does just that. He has a tuner that connects to his ECM and when he brings it o the shop. He said he puts the original settings back in. Sounds like to be on the safe side of the warranty is to not tune the car.
Although he does not have a Zl1, he owns an SS |
