Wind Noise and Squeaks

We've had our Camaro for a few weeks now, bought it with 57 miles from Maxie Price Chevrolet in Georgia.

Since the very first test drive there was been a noticeable wind noise coming from the backseat windows. It's interesting, when I'm driving I hear the wind on the passenger side and when I'm the passenger I can hear it on the drivers side. I didn't think it was a big deal until I got on here and did some reading about recalls. Should I care about the wind noise?

Also, we have some squeaking with the top up when we go over bumps. To me a small thing, nothing to worry about right?

No leaks in the carwash.

I had the same thing and when I took it to my dealer they said that when the recall work was done that the "packing" was not done correctly on the back sides and they took care of it.

That's encouraging, I guess I'll make an appointment. Do I just tell them that I have wind noise around the rear windows?

My past experience with dealers - "that's normal, it's supposed to be like that, now get out of here, we hate you" etc. Especially where I live. I actually went to another state to buy my Camaro. I worked with a dealer here for two weeks, told him my credit score, how much I wanted to put down etc, he kept saying "I'll give you a call and we'll set something up." After hearing that for two weeks my wife and I drove six hours to Georgia and walked out with a fully loaded SS2 we found on Auto Trader

I can understand your concern with this issue. If you would like me to check your VIN for any open recalls or programs, I would be glad to do so. Just send me it via PM. I look forward to your correspondence!

Here's a GM Tech Link that addresses a wind noise problem. I came across archivedsites.com on another thread here. I searched for "camaro convertible" and found it. Hope it helps!

"After completing a folding top repair on the Camaro convertible, check that the folding top plastic retainer strip is secure at the rear side rails. The sides of the folding top may become loose if the retainer strip is not fully seated into the rail or if the side tension cable is improperly positioned. This will result in a wind noise condition from the rear quarter glass area."

Snaphappy...I read that the tension can be adjusted to reduce the wind noise also. Here's a thread. Good luck with this.

Good luck with it. I finally had to take a hit financially and traded my vert in because it was a huge hassle dealing with the dealer and GM. Love my new camaro but will always feel cheated my Chevy because of the money I lost on the trade.

Believe me, you're neither the first nor the last to throw in the towel.
Enjoy your coupe and a good night's sleep for a change.

I had the top recall done and the wind noise was reduced but after a few cycles of the top the noise came back. I suffed a few layers of foam seal tape inside the channel of the window seal on the top. When the window is closed you can feel the air traveling inside when you reach in there. yes I had some one else drive my vert while I was in back seat doing a probe job on my ver lol. The wind noise is just about gone. But I still have that dang squeak. Im taking car in soon to have the inside window seal on the door replaced it split where it meets at the rear of the door and have them put something on that noise in top.

well, I took my car in for the squeak noise and something else unrelated to top. But theres a TB on the noise, so they are going to order "insulator" parts to stop noise. So good luck with noise and hope your dealer helps you.

I need help also. I've taken my '11 vert to the dealer 5 times because I hear a rattle on the rear driver side. Don't know if it's in the panel or the top. They've adjusted and tightened it up back there but the rattle always comes back. I'm getting soo frustrated with this! I also hear wind noise and it gets very loud at times. Sounds like a window is down. I'm new to owning a convertible and my dealership is not helping much.

Newer engineered parts to address the 3 main problems people are having, also routes the cable completely differently than TSB 2 had it. I also believe the bracket system was reconfigured to keep the metal from touching the cloth. The posts are all over camaro5 and the Facebook camaro top problem page.

I can certainly understand your frustrations. If you would like me to set up a case with GM customer service so that I can research the concern, please send me your first and last name, address, phone number, VIN, mileage and involved dealership.

I look forward to working with you!

I finally got the "insulator kit" put on my car. The squeak/rattle appears to be gone so I hope this takes care of any further issues with my top.
