For those of you that feel the need to remind me I did something stupid, or I am stupid, or whatever negative comment you feel compelled to make....it's really not necessary since I already admitted it. What are you doin, nagging me about it? That's a job for women, it doesn't sound good coming from a guy.
You posted something that gave people an opportunity to come together and learn. If someone had not posted this, someone else in this thread might have made a similar decision and had less control than you did. If anything, you managed to keep control much better than a lot of people do in these situations. We're all glad to read that you're alright.

Firstly, thanks for the story.... It's unfortunate that someones property got damaged in the end, and fortunate that nobody yourself included was injured. Good !

And I suppose it's not supposed to be funny, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story! And it made me laugh..... Just imagining the whole thing taking place and the looks on the "unharmed drivers" faces afterwards.... Movie worthy.... The story had a good pace and a nice dramatic buildup!!!

Gotta admit, the temptation has been creeping on me a LOT as of late... To go find a quiet empty parking lot or something.... and give it a go.... Have had the common sense not to do so thus far. And then the cold weather kicked in and prohibited me from taking the car out....

But after reading this, I don't think I'll chance making an ass of myself.

Thanks.

Not condoning this or anything but how else do you get the feel for what your car does and reacts without trying it. Using some common sense and going somewhere out of sight with no one around, why not. This car has alot of power (more than I have ever had) and I don't feel comfortable unless I know how she operates and reacts in different situations.
There are drag strips and closed courses for some but not all. I don't mess around in traffic or street race but on a lonely highway I'll pull over and test out the comp mode, w/o TC to see how long a strip I can lay or whatever. Still have'nt done any donuts but the right time and place, damn rights.
I'm 41 going on 16 and loving every second of it!!!

I feel bad for you Russ. Just trying to have a little fun and the worst possible thing happens.

Most of the burnout competitions I've seen had a spotter for the vehicles, and if the car starts drifting, the spotter would simply push on the rear fender and stabilize the vehicle.

Is this somehow more unsafe or am I just overlooking something?

Oof. As soon as I read "side by side burnouts" ...

It can be very difficult to control the movement of the rear end during a burnout. Glad nobody got hurt!

Somewhere on youtube is a guy doing a burnout in a Dodge Ram SRT10 who hits a wet patch on the road, veers off and hits a tree with the left front, and ends up on his roof...

Whether stationary or moving, burnouts can become very "exciting" in a New York minute...

I have said it to many people that get these cars and others like them.. the power is too tempting for you to do things you normally wouldn't even think of doing... Sometimes it takes something like this to happen to a person before they realize they are driveing a loaded weapon...
i am sure many will read this and say, "I am smarter than that and a better driver, it won't happen to me" well I beg to differ,, you let the power get to you and one day you may end up in a situation just like this... remember the saying

"Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

I am glad Russ and his buddy are ok, and I am sure they learned a valuble lesson.
