The original name of the Camaro was the "Panther" . Not sure why they changed it. I acutally had a early 67 originally bought in North Carolina that was ordered by the dealer for the owners daughter .The factory order sheets all said Panther .

For the record, I love the Camaro and I do like the name, but I think a Chevy Panther would have also been interesting.

Oh, and f*** Ralph Nader. If it's unsafe at any speed, may as well do 120, ass.

Couple reasons, first is that Ralph Naders 'Unsafe at any speed' was still pretty fresh on everyones mind and GM was uncomfortable with releasing a car named after a dangerous animal. Camaro fit in with French C_____ names popular at Chevrolet at the time

Got it, it is a dude from U.S who went to Canada and shout ( Cam Aero), then came back to the states.

So Cam areo is U.S made phrase for a Canadian car. Cant you see why your dash board is different, he didnt give them all the secrets and left something for you.

Camaro=Pal and Pal is american, therefore Camaro is american

.

Now why the french guy used Camaro and not pal because pal is a VHS system and he feared confusion between them.
