Will the ZL1 appreciate?

Is this car ever going to be worth at least what you paid for it (or more)?

Assuming its kept low(er) miles?

I been through a couple of auto auctions for classic cars; and if we have inflation in the future; it may be possible; but in all likely hood; it will not be worth what you pay for it new. Only cars that are special usually appreciate and they are cars that are usually European brands like Mercedes or cars that are Shelby type limited editions made in the 60s or cars in that are made in before the 60s.

Cars that do not have limited runs usually depreciate even in "new condition".

It might keep up with inflation, but probably not. Either way, there are far better ways to invest your money.

Modding usually does not increase value however if on a slight chance it does, you decrease the amount of people willing to buy your car

If you look at the price for hemi 'cudas over time since they were bought new, I think you will see that they initially dropped in price before they started to appreciate. IF, and that's a big IF, the ZL1 would appreciate like a classic car, there would be an initial depreciation. It's a crapshoot!

The smart thing to do is to always buy after someone else takes the new car depreciation. I bought my last 5 cars with less than 10,000 miles on them for major discounts over what they cost new. Why pay $55K for a ZL1 new when they will cost $45K a year later or there abouts? Want factor! I know!

While I agree with you in principle, why in the world are late '70s Trans Ams going for over $20K right now? These kinds of things are hard to predict.
