Don't think they are actually wider. Lower and narrower front end plus wider tires in front make it appear that way.

GM wanted the 14's to look wider! That's why they made the grill narrow / slimmer and the rear defusser. go farther up! But the Z/28 looks wider too because the wheel Wells has extensions on them and it's lowered! So the Z/28 Sits lower than the ZL1, just like the ZL1 sits lower than the SS!
So by GM doing all of this to the Z/28 , I guess you could say that it is wider! Hahaha .... |

Z/28 is considerably wider where it matters. Track width 66.14" front vs ZL1 63.7" front. It barely fit onto the car carrier and it barely fit between my shops lift posts. Another important contributing factor to great road course performance (no really, it's just the tires ).
I too think the ZL1 looks great and would be a awesome car for it's intended purpose.

Lol... that poor whittle ZL1 will chew that Z/28 up in straight line. Not sure I follow.
All sweet looking rides though!

Why does that ZL1 looks so much narrower than the Z/28's? They really look different.

Wide-angle lenses will distort and stretch objects, and this distortion is minimized in the center of the frame and maximized the closer you get to the edges. That and the angle (head on versus angled) are causing this effect...
