Time for answers re: our tops! Scott, Jeff

It seems as though we are only getting band aid fixes for all of our top issues. I sure wish someone from corporate would chime in and let us know what is really going on. My top is supposed to get replaced next week but after seeing all these problems with replaced tops I am not sure. Mine isn't that bad yet and is much better than those I have seen replaced. Who else thinks we should get some corporate comment on these besides me?

Your top does not have rub marks??

The other problems come after the replacement due to the rub marks.....which poses the question: Live with rub marks or deal with a crappy replacement?

No rub marks yet. I only have about 1955 miles on it so far but pretty much all of that has been top down. I put the top up for storage. I have a couple of creases but have had Corvette convertibles for years and don't have a problem with that because it happens. Not seeing anything like this...yet. I'll keep an eye on it because it seems to be a recurring issue.

2200 miles and all top down. I didn't buy a convertible to drive with the top up. These started almost from the start. Keep an eye on it. You may want to look close especially after you wash it. They will be there. I checked out a few at the dealer and they had them to. Brand new sitting on the lot.

If you don't have the rub marks consider yourself lucky ! I thought I was being wise by waiting almost 3 months. The new top isn't crap it is just that it seems that there are is no direction given to these outsourced trim shops and they end up installing them incorrectly leading to the problems we are having.

have your service departments send someone up to Rodgers Chevrolet in Detroit. They can teach them how to replace your tops the correct way.
They did mine with the assistance from one of the top designers, and my replacement is perfect. so rub marks, no wind noise.

I really don't think a dealership here in Minnesota is going to pay for the guy to go to Detroit. They are trying to maximize every dollar they have. Now if Chevy were to do it, I would be all for it.

Somehow I don't think thats going to happen. If everyone got on the same page, GM technical support, Dealership service, and outsource trim shop, I really think this could work out. But as of now nobody seems to talk to another. AAARRRGGG !

Hence the reason for this post. My interior guy has 30+ years of experience in this business. He has done many Mustangs but has yet to do a new Camaro. While he did a great job fixing my seat, I am a little leery with him ripping off the canvas and putting a new one on. At least he lives by me and I can check in on his progress.

Wouldn't it be nice if Chevrolet itself would offer a traing class on convertable tops, and offer the class to all Chevy dealers.
Just like Rodger's Chevrolet, it would be worth it for each interested Chevy dealership to send one of their own to the class to learn how to do it right.
Over the long run, they would be much better off since they could do the repairs themselves and not have to farm it out to another shop, plus they would make their customers that much happier if they can depend on the dealership to do quality repairs.
The happier their customers are, the better the chance that those customers will return to that dealership in the future for either service work or to buy a new car.

Seems like a little effort on Chevrolet's part and the dealerships part is a win/win/win.

Totally a great idea. And a nice write off for Chevy to have all the technicians come in for a few days. Alas, I don't think it's going to happen.
