Question: How much does it cost to change the oil on an SS?
I just got my first oil change on my Camaro SS before i store it for the winter...I didn't realize that it would cost $150.
Is this normal? Does it need full synthetic? Why does it take 8qt? Thanks for all the input... Will |

Yes 8 quarts and uses full synthetic. Do it your self for about $50 (less if you catch a sale) with Mobil 1, $150 is crazy. Most dealers would charge $80-100, your place is a Hugh ripoff.
As for "why" it take 8 qts, because it does. Not sure what kind of answer you want here. Felix - Sent from my 2SS/RS Last edited by nyrfan; 01-17-2013 at 10:45 AM. |

$150 sounds like highway robbery.
Almost like what Jiffy lube does to people. You pay for the ( ) quart oil change, then you pay the charge for that many quarts of synthetic on top. AT least that is what they used to do. Haven't been there in a bit. |

You can buy a 5 quart jug of Mobile or other synthetics at Walmart for $25 usually. It takes 15 minutes to change the oil yourself and you'll feel better about yourself when you're finished. You'll spend less then $50 in total.

I hate Dumpmart and avoid at all costs! I usually wait for Advance Auto (or Auto Zone) to have their Mobil 1 sale and stock up. Last one was in December (they seem to have it every 2nd or 3rd month), 1 - 5qt jug (or 5 individual qts) and a Mobil 1 filter for 29.99. Stocked up enough for 3 changes, total $120 + tax out the door.

It's 29 bucks at Walmart for fully synthetic mobil 1 where am at. At 150 the person that did it basically mugged you. But if you think 8qts is bad my dads oil ford excursion desiel took 16qts and a huge expensive oil filter. Cost almost 150 doing it your self when you bought all the good stuff.

Actually it was $124 + tax for 3 - 5 qt jugs, 9 individual qts and 3 filters. So 3 changes in total.

Dang $100 plus for an oil change ! I just got my SS and haven't changed the oil yet but glad I got the end of the year service deal from the dealership. $10 oil changes for the entire length of ownership of the vehicle and yes I got it in writing.

Make sure they use Mobile 1 if it's an SS. They will screw you, and you'll never know it.

I buy Mobil 1 synthetic at Costco, or online at Amazon. Can't quite you prices off the top of my head but I'm sure either are better than buying elsewhere.
