What Should I Do?

What Should I Do?
I went out with my best friend last night for dinner. I let my roommate borrow my camaro because he had to work and I wasn't going to be able to take him to work.

He called me a little after 10pm and said that he bumped the passenger front wheel on a rock. He said there was no damage to the car or the tire, but that the rim of my wheel was a little 'scuffed' and he thought it could be sanded smooth.

My friend, Jason, was a little pissed that I let my roomie use the car. And that he now damaged it. I know he is not going to pay to fix it. In fact when I said it is more than a scuff. his response is 'it is just the rim, amanda, geez'

I am going out of town to pick up a newcar in about a week. I will be gone for 4 days. He has to get to work and go see his son while I am away.

damage doesn't seem too bad. I still would not let anyone use the car.
tell them your insurance company had a fit (or something that'll get the "blame" off you.

#1. His problems aren't your problems. Keep the car away from him since he's not responsible enough to care for it and doesn't respect you for lending it to him to help him out.

#2. For gawd's sake replace those tires. That sidewall is so dry-rotten. I would never drive that down the hwy.

Small curb rash and it's sucks......but I would be more worried about driving around on those weather checked cracking side walls; not safe...

To me, the damage is not that big of a deal and can very easily be fixed.

The issue is that he didn't respect your vehicle, didn't accept any kind of responsibility for the damage while it was in his care, didn't bother to at least OFFER to pay for the repair, and pretty much blew you off when you brought it up.

He would not only never see my keys again, but he would also never be allowed in it as a passenger. He would have to find a different way to work and to see his kid.

+1 (but those tires are unsafe for anyone)

when those tires blow out and kill someone the rim will be no big deal.

Let him find his own way and keep him away from your car or in your car. Also replace those tires....but why doesn't he have his own transportaion?

He's your roommate - not your kid or spouse or responsibility. Why do YOU have to let him use your car to go to work and see his kid? Or are you living rent free ?

For me - not a chance would I allow someone else to drive my car except my hubby. And I would not allow myself to be indebted to someone enough to give them the keys to my camaro.....

You should never let anyone use your car. I think people get jealous and do that stuff on purpose.. I never let anyone even drive my 98. I let my ex drive it one time and it was on a back road with me in the car. Oh my dad can drive it. His a proud F-Body owner and treats it well. And that's it
