"Estimated Production Guide Numbers" = Allocation?

Reading the fine print here has me a little worried.

“These numbers are only “estimates” and are not a guaranteed allocation.”

And

“Please set a proper expectation for your customers seeking a 2012 Camaro ZL1 Coupe.”

Does this mean nobody really has an allocation, just an estimated allocation? If this is true, when will we know? When the order is accepted?

My guess and only a guess. GM will gauge the numbers of "quick orders" entered and then adjust actual allocations and ultimately production volumes accordingly. That is what it seems like they are doing. Each dealer has been provided an estimate "guide" and GM will see how many orders come in. They will likely move allocations around based on these quick orders.

That wouldnt make sense to me. Essentially, a dealers best bet would be to take all the quick orders they can possible, regardless of their allocations they were quoted, and hope they get more...

very simple -- remember the tragedy in Japan last March?

What happens if there is a catastrophe at, say, a supplier's plant that builds one or more of the components.

Welcome to our litigious society!
