Open header question
I need some opinions on something I have been wondering about for this next season at the track. I am wondering if any of you run open headers at the drag strip. I am contemplating using a straight pipe 16-18" long off my high flow cats. I would make a piece of my stock pipes removable on each side for doing this and make the change at the track before racing. Right now my exhaust is LT headers with high flow cats into the stock pipes to the axle and GMPP axle back from there. I am wondering if I do this will I pick any HP or actually lose a little. I am assuming the ecm should compensate for the extra flow with this configuration and then reset with the stock pipes.
Dan

you have to have 18 inches beyond the o2 sensor, or it will get invalid readings. the weight loss will be more of a benefit than the power added

Ok, my thinking is that the power gain just won't be worth the trouble, the 02 sensor is a non factor they are tuned out. Thanks Parag

def not gonna help you, add the electric cutouts if you want, but many have tested the diff on the cutouts and there is almost no gain..

Thanks Mike, I'll save myself the work and leave it as is. I had just never seen anyone ask that question before so I figured I'd ask.

Dyno tested or track tested? You never know unless you try, the wieght removal would be nice and you never know you might pick up another MPH. I may try this myself at some point. I had the best exhaust money can buy on my olds, still picked up a tenth with the dumps open, even though I was told I would not loose any power though my exhaust. Full 3" x pipe with spintech pro street mufflers.

removing restrictions helps .. but if it isnt restricting .....removing it doesnt help.. make sense ? the factory exhaust flows well..... you need to move a lot more air to max it out
