This depends on a couple of factors: track conditions, rules, the tree, and the rest of the field.
I might hold a couple of hundreths to a tenth just because I am not consistent with my launch every time. I know the car will run a 12.0 index and faster if I nail the launch. With a more consistent launch, I would be less likely to "sandbag" a little. It is part of bracket racing and I have seen guys do as much as 5 tenths to a second. For me, I just need to improve my consistency as a driver.

The car has to be reliable and able to be atleast predictable. You have to change up your game weekly so nobody knows what your doing pass to pass.

My car is very consistent. The only variation comes at the end of the day when temperatures drop and breakout is very possible. I hold 1/10th and trust me, you won't be able to hit the brakes and win against my Camaro....lol. I was the runner up at the first Holley LS Fest at Beech Bend and should have won it, but fell asleep on the lights...still won $250 and a bunch of vendor prizes. Won $75 in the second Holley LS Fest last year, but that was running "Index" and I won't do that again.

Always hold.....lift at the MPH cone to run the dial but always have that few hun if needed at the stripe.

Letting off at the mph cone seems a good idea that I will try. I normally hit the tree hard & dail my number. There are a lot of baggers here. It is hard to beat a .007 package.

I only bracket race when I want some more runs after T&T.
However, my car is coming together nicely now, and recently I have done 7 straight runs within <0.01ET and <0.5mph difference. Last time I bracketed, I hit my bracket within 0.002ET. But what I had done was planned in a reaction time of 0.1 and I nailed it. Next time, I broke out because it was end of the day, cooler, lighter. But still I was happy with the first run. So my question to the experts: do I basically dial in the time I've been riunning all day and add my expected reaction time? Basically, I know I'm not going to hit a .001 RT, but I know I can hit an ~0.1. This way I relax at the line and don't redlight. Anyway, if I can learn the art of Bracket Racing, I might be taking on some of those classes at the LSX Shootouts this year. Padre |

Not yet. I do plan on running some sanctioned events this year, so it's being planned.

Lol...you're probably right. I was runner up at Holley LS Fest year before last and there was a young guy with .007 reaction times the whole day according to the timing booth and I ran him in the finals. His reaction time was .339, but my usual .170 was a .400...geesh, I could have kicked myself. I won $250 for runner up anyway!

There are so many mind games to play when it comes to bracket racing. I've always felt you need 3 things to win at bracket racing: Your car has to be on You have to be on And you have to have some Luck Years ago my brother ended up winning Track Champion at Texas Motorplex. He had a street '65 Nova with a mild 350 and 150 shot of juice. His method was to sandbag, cut a good light, and use the nitrous to give him just the edge if he needed to cross the line in front of the other guy. That was back before crossover/delay boxes were the norm though. It worked for him.
