Yes - especially higher viscosity oil, but the pump housing design is clearly flawed

If GM manufacturer used substandard materials in the pump, I would expect that to be a failure in workmanship These vehicles should have either a recall or extension of warranty.
Won't happen because replacing all the pumps would be huge $$$. Fortunately failures (esp '19+) are still fairly rare, then again most of these cars are garage queens. If your car is out of warranty and you want to keep it long term just get the Katech wet sump pump

is that why the recommendation went from 5w/30 to 0w/40?

If you catch it early enough (the 10-20psi drop stage), there will be nearly no damage to your engine in most cases. We have a 2021 come into the shop with a broken oil pump, he bought the car new, had an oil pressure drop, and had it immediately towed to us. We tore into the shortblock to check it out, and all bearings were in phenomenal shape. We could have put it together as-is, but the customer opted for Clevite bearings, ARP mains, ARP rod bolts, and ARP side bolts.

For anyone that is concerned with a factory oil pump failure, drive your car as you would normally, and just watch after your oil pressure. If you see any unusual large drops that stay low, i would park the car until you choose a direction for repair
I am in litigation with GM now over a failed oil pump. Would it be ok if I have my attorney contact you for more information on what you have found with these failed pumps?

For those with 2017 and 2018 that HAD stock pumps, how much did chevy bill to change out to a newer updated oil pump?

If you were to do a new pump install through a dealer what would be another smart item to change at that time without adding HP?

Called my dealer and they said 18 hours for labor, $2,400 before parts.

Haven't added my vote to the poll....YET!

Got the Low Oil Pressure/Shut Engine Down message Thursday night accelerating away from light. Was on for around a second, went out, then a couple seconds later came back on. Pulled into a parking lot and shut it down.

I've got a 2017 with approx 24,400 miles on it. Owned the car for 5 years and 5 months.

Called the dealership service department, asked about possibly getting a "good-faith" warranty extension (or whatever it's called) and was told to talk to the Service Department Manager on Monday to see what might be able to be done.

I made a comment that if it wasn't for COVID requiring me to work from home for almost 2 years, I would have easily put the miles on the car and it would have probably failed well within the 5 year warranty period. The service rep said something to the affect of "That's been taken into consideration before" or something similar....not sure what to make of that, but keeping my fingers crossed!

If they won't/aren't able to hook me up, I'll throw a Pressure Transmitter at it and see if I get lucky...more to come.

Well, it's official....just added my 2017 (24,400 miles, 5 years and 5months after delivery)to the poll.

Replaced the Oil Pressure Transmitter, fired it up and still have 0psi.

And to think I used to talk smack about Hellcats and that nobody in their right mind would keep a Dodge after the warranty ran out. Stupid me!

I'm at 5 yr 3 mo and just hit 10k. Built 4/13/17. I keep one eye glued to the oil pressure gauge every time I take it out. But let us know how the good faith thing works out. I got the instrument cluster replaced in my 13k mile '05 Avalanche around 2015 under that. Ironically, the oil pressure gauge on it pegged at 80 psi. Cost me $100. But that was then, when GM appreciated their customers, not sure about that now. Then again, the instrument cluster was only about a $500 repair.

Damn, that's pricey! I wish I had a couple dozen Camaros lined up, waiting on pump replacements at $3k each. I could quit my day job!

2018, 21,000 miles, oil pump failed last month. After 3 weeks of diagnosing and apparently GM looking through my telemetry, they replaced motor. Had 6 months of warranty left luckily. It happened at the end (or during) my fourth session at a track. When I came off the track I got the "Low oil Pressure....shut off engine". When I looked over the PDR telemetry, during the last lap, my max oil pressure was 20-25 psi higher than the first 3 sessions (which were all the same). Last lap, right before I pulled off track and got the warning it recorded a max of 80 Psi and a min of 31 psi?

Did you notice any metallic glitter in any of your oil changes?

Does that mean you aren't covered under warranty?

Sounds like you caught it early so hopefully no engine damage, time to call Katech and order a pump

Yeah it's crazy GM can't build a reliable oil pump, they had to go through multiple revisions, and it can still fail '19+ (although rare) - completely unacceptable - plus that the LT4 seems to have excessive oil blowby in many cases
