305 or 312 HP ?
Just read on cnn.com that what we thought was 304 HP is actually 312HP. 304 was only an estimate. The official rating is 312HP.

Not really an estimate. But a tested to number. Then a certified to number. The certified to number came out higher.

304 wasn't really an estimate, it was borrowed from the CTS. The engine itself is the same whether its in a 2011 Camaro or a 2009 CTS 3.6DI. Difference is in the intake and exhaust. Camaro flows just a little freer.

In '67, the 350 w/4 barrel was rated at 295hp and probably got about 15-16 mpg if you were lucky......pretty amazing stuff, we now have a V6 with 312hp and I'm getting 22-23 mpg ave.

Were the V8s ever "certified"? If not, I wonder what that number will be.

I rather they would have told us our Camaro's weight was wrong and they actually weigh only 3400 lbs...
Also, I was happy to hear about the extra hp at first, but then bummed out because that means we're getting lame 1/4 miles times with more hp than we thought... Oh well, still keeps us ahead of the hp race with the Mustangs.

When they released the car they went with the engines CTS's numbers of 304hp since it had already been certified. The Camaro has a better flowing exhaust and intake so when they finally got around to certifying the Camaro it came out to 312hp. So no actual boost in power just truing up the numbers.
