licence plates

I am trying to find out about NY State front plates. We go down to Captree every Sunday morning. There is usually a State trooper that comes by and tickets those without a front plate. Well now most of us have some sort of bracket to put the plate on temp. I know the law says we have to have front plates, ok I get it. so if I choose not to have it on my car I guess I should get a ticket. So now the new thing this trooper is doing is measuring the height of the plate. so now some of us got tickets for the plate not being 12 inches off the ground!! Is this really a written law? Are there any ny state troopers on here or does anyone know one that they can really look into this for us.

I'd like to see someone mount a front plate on a new Corvette and keep it 12" off the ground, it woul be above the front facia! Why would a plate be required to be any higher than the lowest part of the body? Any cop that tickets that is a real loser!

I'm friends with the police chief in town. I'll try to talk to him tomorrow (4/4) and keep you up to date.

I agree, this has kept me away from Captree due to my lack of a front plate. Ocean Parkway was my favorite crusin road growing up. I was thinking of the hide-away plate holder. Now that is not even good enough?
Let me get this straight there are serial killers dumping bodies in this area and the cops are spending their time ticketing cars based on the height of a plate! What a waste .............

Hay guys checked with police in town .....the law book states there must be two plates front and rear. No less than 16" and no more than 30". However, even the police stated, it dose NOT say the starting point. Is 16" from the top, bottom or center of the plate. The State Trooper must be having a bad day.

that is correct!! It seems to be just one trooper. I have no idea what his problem is with the cars. We go every sunday but we now take our one and only camaro that has a front plate. I can't even enjoy the ride anymore!!
