Break-in

what's the best way to break in the motor for most HP? Should I wait to put an exhaust on until after break-in or do it right away?

Oh God, when I read the first few words after the title of the thread, I though you were asking how the best way to break into a new camaro was. hahaha, I can't really answer your question, other people know better than I do... Welcome to the boards.

Boy you are gunna stir up some controversy with this post! EVERYONE has a differnt idea for the "Best way"! bottom line, the LS engine needs around 5000 or more to yeld top HP, How I'm going to break in mine, I'll drive it nice and easy for 500-1000 miles then slowly start to give her a little more hell!

i would say to put the exhaust on right away, so that you computer can break the system in with the mod on it, which would id think give you the most power.

i think a lot of people tend to forget that more the just the motor need to "broken-in".
don't forget your clutch and transmission (in a man.), the brakes need a few hundred miles too.

Personally i would be very easy on the car for a good 1000 up to 3000miles. Then again its your car so treat it however you want. that doesn't guarantee anything though. will you get more HP/TQ ? maybe... maybe not. will the parts last longer... maybe... maybe not.

i babied my first new car for about 5000miles before slowly gettin on it more and more and the clutch went after 15000 miles... (not normal). i am an experienced driver, it just came down to a poorly manufactured pressure plate. luckily VW covered it after a little bit of convincing.

technically it should be broke in already, for the most part, GM breaks in Corvettes at the factory so they are pretty much completely driveable of the showroom floor, now i would go racing it pick up day im sure other stuff needs to break in
