Driving home last evening, lost oil pressure (definitely not a sensor / lots of rattle) in the 2013 1LE - 13K miles, not sure what happened yet, but suspect oil pump - I wonder why after all these years they still have the the same problem, got to wonder if anyone is working to solve the issue

So my car has the same issue, (2012 LS3 46K miles) was at the coast on a Camaro get together and went over to a friends that morning for BF before heading back home was there for about an hour came out started the car and before getting out of the driveway "DING DING DING" Low oil pressure shut engine off. Shut it down checked the oil it was fine checked for leaks didn't see any. Started it back up maybe a gauge misread, the gauge pack said 0 OP. Shut it back off got a flash light to see if I could see oil pumping to the top end started it up and started "ticking" quickly shut it back off and called the tow truck. So I call the local dealer as I'm back home over 3.5 hours from my car and he says I was 2 quarts low and after he topped it off my oil pressure came back up. I told him I checked the oil when the alarm went off he said looks like an oil consumption problem. I said ok for arguments sake let's say I read the dipstick wrong even 2 quarts low there is enough oil in the pan to have oil pressure, he agreed but said seems fine now and for me to come get my car and should follow up with my local dealer for further inspection. I agree would be nice to have my car closer to home, I asked well what if it drops to zero again on the way home and it damages the engine? Well it would be covered under the powertrain warranty he said.

Bringing this thread back to life since it has answered most of my questions and may help some others. I've been on this forum for a long time and never knew anything about this, or just never paid attention to it.

I just had the dreaded message show up this morning in the DIC about LOW OIL PRESSURE; TURN OFF ENGINE!!!

Happened on start-up. Car only ran for 10 seconds or so, and I shut it off. I should be good in regards to health of engine, but we'll see. It'd be a shame if 10 seconds kills this engine.

My car was built within the 1st few weeks at the restart of production back in early April 2009. So the pump has lasted this long, but car only has 33,000 miles on it.

Looks like it was a fairly common issue way back then and had a PI (Product Information vs TSB) put out by GM:

PIP4158C: Low Oil Pressure Due To Seized Oil Pressure Relief Valve - (Dec 29, 2009)

Subject: Low Oil Pump Pressure due to Seized Oil Pressure Relief Valve

Models: 2008-2009 Buick Lacrosse, Allure (Canada Only)
2007-2010 Cadillac CTS-V, Escalade
2007-2010 Chevrolet Avalanche, Corvette, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2007-2008 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
2007-2009 Chevrolet Impala SS, Trail Blazer
2009-2010 Chevrolet Colorado
2010 Chevrolet Camaro
2007-2010 GMC Envoy, Sierra, Yukon
2009-2010 GMC Canyon
2008-2010 Hummer H2
2008-2010 H3 Alpha
2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP
2008-2010 Pontiac G8 GT
2007-2009 Saab 97x
with the Following Aluminum V8 Engine RPOs:
L76, L77, L92, L94, L99, L9H, LC9, LH6, LH8, LH9, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7, LS9, LSA, LZ1

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain of low oil pressure, no oil pressure, and/or engine noise, which may be the result of a sticking oil pump pressure relief valve. In some instances, this may occur intermittently if the valve frees up when the engine cools down.
Recommendation/Instructions:

If SI diagnosis isolates low mechanical oil pressure at the oil filter housing and oil pressure sensor, replace the oil pump, flush the oil cooler lines (if equipped), clean the inside of the oil pan, change the oil and filter, and re-evaluate the concern.

Notice: If an engine noise is noticed after replacing the oil pump, follow the SI diagnosis and repair the engine as necessary.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

The issue is guys will just switch out the pump with an aftermarket one and bitch on the internet about it. For the ones out of warranty, this doesn't apply, but warrantied parts get sent back to the factory to see what went wrong.

Well leaving Walmart last night my check engine light comes on and I then notice the oil pressure gauge is reading 0!!! Pull over check for leaks and oil level, no leaks but oil seems a little low but its not so low that the gauge reads 0. Checked the codes this morning P0523 engine oil pressure sensor/ switch high. The oil light never came on. So I had her towed home and will be towing to the dealership Monday morning. Lucky no engine noise.

You would think GM must have had enough pumps returned by now since they issued Product Info bulletin PIP4158C ... in 2009. They must have know something was wrong back then.

It's called "fix as fail". What would you expect? GM to recall every unit with that pump?

One other thing, how about we let this 6 year old post die already?

Why let it die, people have an issue and can post.

I guess I need to stop using the remote start. I always start it remotely to warm it up for a few mins before I leave for work everyday. I would never see the DIC warning or hear anything if there was an issue. I have 53k on it and no issues so far, but DAMN! Maybe it's time for a cam and new pump?

With a factory remote start system, the car should shut itself down when it detects an issue.
