Cleaning Lower Rocker Panels.

Got under my '10 Camaro yesterday during an oil change and noticed a few
things. The underside of my rocker panels is full of road tar and imbedded
dirt. You can't see this area unless your many feet away from the car. Does
anyone have a simple easy solution to removing tar and cleaning this area?
Some of what's shown is simple dirt from a recent rain.

Here you go myold88. I use GooGone and a little elbow grease to get rid of the tar.

Clean them with just soap and water first. Use a nylon bug sponge. Then spray WD-40 on to break up the remaining tar and animal guts. Then use soap and water again followed by some wax. May require heavy elbow grease.

I think jus1dab has a good suggestion.

Just make sure to use a good quality dish soap like dawn and all the wd40 residue washes right away

Thanks guys. My WD40 and Dawn are 6 feet from my Camaro but where do you get GooGone
and a nylon bug sponge? WalMart or Auto store I'm guessing Going outside right now to try the
WD40. It's 70+ degrees here in Ct today and tomorrow.

If your using wd40 I don't think you'll need goo gone. Most basic sponges are either identical on all sides or soft on one side and have a net looking opposite side for bugs. I really only use that side for the barrel of my wheels but that's a good application in your case.

Walmart sells it in the hardware section as well as the auto section.

Ok, I just went outside and applied WD40 and let it sit, then scrubbed it with a cotton cloth
for a few minutes (from the door edge forward). Within 5 minutes it look like this. My old
WD40 can jammed up so I only got a small amount onto the car. Amazing stuff.
Also I never realized that there's a plastic chip guard there also. It's faded and yellow from
8 years & 50,000 miles of use so I doubt that will ever clean up. Another nice day tomorrow
so off to Walmart AM and I'll finish up at least one side.

WD-40 #1. I also do my rims with it. Adds a nice protection layer so each time I clean the rims the dust, dirt and break dust slip right off with an easy wipe. I recommend the non aerosol spray as it's less messy. I buy the gallon can and pour into a spray bottle. I find it less messy this way as it doesn't mist everything other than what I want it on or I just spray a rag and wipe down whatever I'm cleaning.

My Camaro is pretty much chip free after 8 years so I think those stone guards may just be one more thing to clean.
I've got one chip on my hood, some gouge type cuts on the front facia, and absolutely none on the 1/4 panel gills.
Go figure?
