Pretty disappointed at how far the front tires stick out.

Finally got a decent up close picture of the front wheels/tires on a ZL1. Are the mag ride struts really wide up front? I've seen dozens of 10" wide wheels on the front of SSs and they don't stick out anywhere near this much if any.

Can anyone snap a pic of the tire/strut clearance?

Also a straight edge up against the tire picture would be cool to see how much they actually stick out, to me it looks like the tires are a good 3/4" outside the fender.

I absolutely LOVE the stance on the ZL1 . . . finally GM designs a wheel that isn't sucked into the wheel well.

I hate to be the one to break it to you but the Zl1 uses 285/35-20 in front and 305/35-20 in the rear. Thats 11.02" tire width in front and 12.00" tire width in the rear.

Some folks pay a lot of money in the aftermarket get the stance that the ZL1 has stock. I hope you can find a way to appreciate it for what it is, wide tires and all.

I really don't understand this thread, unless you live life a 1/4 mile at a time. For what it's worth, these cars aren't about a 1/4 mile run.

I hate to break it to you, but

I said 10" wide wheels up front, not tires. I know what size wheels/tires come of the ZL1.

My car also has 10" wide wheels up front with 285 tires. Except my tires are 11.4" wide, that's almost half an inch wider and they don't stick out like the ZL1.
I love wide stances too, but when you go past the fenders it makes it look goofy. Like someone didn't do their homework on what size wheels/tires fit the car.

Honestly if they wanted to go wider than the fenders, they should have done a small wide body kit like the Vettes, that's doing it right

I think you are in the wrong thread, no one said anything about 1/4 mile.

I posted this to see if someone could post a picture of the ZL1 strut to tire clearance. I'm curious as to why they decided to go past the fender with the wheels.

I think it was done like this on purpose for looks, but there most likely an engineering reason first and foremost. I remember a quote saying something about 'a designers dream' and referencing the tires / wheels in relation to the body. Perhaps they were trying to optimize the track width? IMO as much time and effort as went into this car I doubt it is because someone "didn't do their homework".

With the parameters you've provided for your argument, I doubt anyone will be able to enlighten you further.

1) 11.2" +.5"=11.4" WTF????
2) Your signature claims 18"x 8.5" and 18x11 Forgestar F14 but you now claim your car has 10" wide wheels in the front with (285mm) or 11.4" tires.
3) Your opinion what is "goofy looking" or the amount of "homework" completed by the ZL1 Engineers may not be alligned enough with either fact or the collective opinion of the general community for anyone to give a crap what you personally think.

While you may proceed to escalate your argument, I will point out that your thread, announcing your distaste for the aesthetics of the offset of the ZL1 wheels in the ZL1 Forum is no more discreet in its "stirring the pot" than walking into Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and declaring that you cannot understand why the Raiders uniforms aren't more colorful, and that you'd prefer something with a little more pink.

Either way, best of luck with your orientations, whichever way they lean.

SUX2BU...I suppose.
