Anyone Dynamat the trunk to reduce exhaust drone?
Has anyone with LT's and a catback lined their trunk with Dynamat? Just wondering if that has had any success in quieting a little exhaust drone.
Mine has kind of a hum, just in 6th gear below 80 mph, that gets a bit annoying if both windows are up. Not a real bad drone that rattles your brain and ears, just kind of an annoying hum. 5th gear sounds great at 75 mph, drop it into 6th and hmmmmmmmm. I'd rather not mess with the exhaust because it sounds awesome in every other aspect, except 6th gear highway cruising. |

I have a muffler delete (SLP LM I), and decided to dynamat the trunk (just the thinner area around the battery area, as recommended by a car audio place in my town) to get rid of the 6th gear drone.
Honestly, If there is a difference, it ain't much :( |

I think if you want to see a bigger difference you would need to do the entire trunk area and sides. Just the battery area doesn't cover all that much. It is a lot more work, but worth it if you don't want to hear it as much.

it helps a little, I have a full hushmat setup the whole trunk all the floors and decklid and the roof was hushmatted. and I ended up getting rid of my flowmaster catback and going with a magnaflow street. With my longtubes and HF cats and cam swap it was irritating.

the (matt) is used for vibration dampening, you would want to use MLV mass loaded vinyl, such as luxury liner pro from (SECOND SKIN PRODUCTS)on top of the vibration material. http://www.secondskinaudio.com/produ...Insulation.php a good place for some knowledge

Has anyone had any success with the two layers, vibration and then a mass layer?

This is related, but not exactly on topic,so forgive me.I saw a website offering a liquid, high viscosity paintable, plyable noise and heat insulator, with incredible results.
Yesterday I saw an ad for another Chevrolet car touting a new liquid sound deadening process. This bears some research, since the stuff reminded me of Kool Seal, and would be very easy to apply. It dries in a couple of hours.I apologise for not remembering the name, but if I can find it,I will post it. |

Are you still talking about your trunk? if yes, You could do this in stages. 1.one layer of deadening matt ( it may or may not need to be covered 100%, just do the rap test) 2.MLV luxury liner pro at 100%coverage if this does not meet your expectations they make some stuff like the MLV , only its made of lead IMO to get the best results you would have to do the whole interior. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi http://www.raamaudio.com/ http://www.secondskinaudio.com/vibra...lifier-pro.php they also have the sludge I recently used all of these products in my Tacoma which is the nosiest truck. i have ever rode in. |

I did my entire trunk and while I can hear the exhaust note..... The Drone is Gone...... This winter I am gonna remove the back seat and continue where I left off..... I have a 2SS with Borla axle back. I used Mega Mat...and compared to the Dynamat I put in my Avalanche this stuff is thick!

I have ARH long tubes with SLP LM II's. I used 1 layer of Fatmat on the entire trunk and it worked great.

I ordered the Fatmat trunk kit ($50) today. Heard a lot of good things about it. Will post impressions this weekend and some pics.
Have the full Kooks system (headers, cat, exhaust) and get some drone with the windows up at 1600-1900 RPM under moderate throttle. Hope this will knock it down a notch!
