You may be right, BUT can the ZL1 keep up the pace lap after lap reliably without overheating? A single lap is not what a track dedicated car is about.

Mustang GT500 overheats the brakes after only one lap at Laguna Seca. That one lap may be fast, but the car is worthless for a track rat. A recent track event saw a novice overheat the brakes on his GT500, and balled up the car into a barrier

that is really transmission and drive train losses I would think. Don't know how the 3.73 rear end in the ZL1 would compare to the lower gears in the Z/28 for losses, but I can't imagine 480 RWHP on a 505 BHP rated engine. I could be wrong.

Anyway, good point on the ratios... lb/hp works better outside a spread sheet to be sure
580hp/4120 lb = 0.1408 or 7.1 lb/hp ZL1

505hp/3800 lb = .1329 or 7.52 lb/hp Z28

3590 lbs z/28 505hp/3590 lb=0.1407 or 7.1 lb/hp

Z06 Vette 505hp/3175 lbs= .1591 or 6.3 lb/hp Z06

ducati Panigale w/termis: 203hp/407lb = .4988 or 2.0 lb/hp !!! (Get's worse with my fat backside strapped to it (about 3 lb/hp but still...

Not quite sure what you mean by, "Not sure an engine can really determine RWHP..."
To get to any of your equations your using the car, hence the lbs. Therefore to be closer to "actual" results it would be RWHP which includes the car not just the engine.

I hope it isn't something dismal like 425 rear wheel - have a feeling that's what will be seen.
Constantly being a downer gets old...my comment was "some" as high as.

cheers!
Yeah "everything". It's so easy to be inclusive!

Just be glad we all have a choice....V6, SS, SS 1LE, Z/28, and ZL1... What a lineup! Something for everyone.

It's not infighting though, it's bashing by ZL1 guys. They obviously don't understand they have a great car they don't have to justify.

No sir. The Z/28 will still get through the corners significantly faster because of the lighter weight and lower center of gravity. and with the low end torque of the big cube 427 it will exit the corners faster as well. coming out of the corner it'll be a bit before the ZL1 will get up to speed and start making up ground on the straightaway.

I do not think that the LS7 produces as much low end torque, the LS7 doesn't exceed 400ft-lbs of torque until after 2,000rpms. By that point the LSA in the Camaro is making over 450ft-lbs of torque, so really the ZL1 Camaro will come out of the corner faster in theory.

Here is the thing, the Z/28 was stated to be slightly heavier then the V-6 Camaro, it was also stated as having a better power to weight ratio then the ZL1 Camaro. The ZL1 Camaro at 4,100 pounds and 580BHP has a power to weight ratio 7.1 pounds per horsepower (rounded up otherwise its 7.06). The only way that the Z/28 Camaro only has 500BHP is if it weighs 3,500 pounds (which it doesn't). So with the information of a better power to weight ratio and at 3,780 pounds the Z/28 Camaro is making at the crank at least 540BHP.

Add to that the price of the ZL1 just went up probably another 10K.

i didn't compare torque numbers between the two engines. i'm saying the LS7 is a torque monster, and the Z/28 will already be carrying more speed through the corners than the ZL1 because of the weight advantage and lower COG, and with the big engine it's going to fly out of that corner faster than the ZL1. i mean, that's the whole point of this thread right, that the Z/28 has alread proven faster around one track by 3 seconds? it's going to be more of the same on any other track unless there's a lot of long straights where the ZL1 can take advantage of its HP.
