Not buying that it was an oil issue. If that were the case there would be hundreds or thousands of these threads. I am over 700hp and run Mobil 1 with no issues.

Trust me when I say it was an oil issue. The cam is aggressive, and thus when it needs that last layer of protection, its not there. The cam lobe skids on the roller, and will pull the metal off the cam. The result is that it will drastically wear exponentially, like a flat spotted tire. If the oil has the proper additives, it will not hurt the parts. If it doesnt, itll wear incorrectly, and damage the valvetrain. Read this, and tell me that wasnt an oil issue too? http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...otor%20Oil.pdf |

I'm only passing along what I'm being told by the folks at LG. They've run independent tests along with other businesses they do business with and have determined the change in oil composition has caused failures.
I'll freely admit that I don't know enough regarding this to have a worthwhile opinion. My question is what about all the other folks using this cam who haven't switched oils and are still using mobil one right? Could I really just be this unlucky? Why haven't there been a slew of additional failures over the past year or so?

Thanks for sharing all the oil info. What would be a few examples of oil that would have the higher zinc/phos content, but still be ok to use with racing cats or stock cats? It looks like it would be pretty easy to pick out the racing oils best for high load protection, but it's hard to tell which ones would also be safe for street use with cats. |

If you use the oils the EPA wants you to use, the engine will now turn to rubbish before the cat.
We recommend redline street 5 or 10/30 for use with cats. We have tested it, and it works great. Redline oil has been close to us in this issue, and we both recommend that oil for street usage. Im working diligently with Comp cams as well as Joe gibbs to come up with quality oils that work well with cats, and have enough detergents in them to still keep the engine clean on the inside. Redline 40wt race oil lacks detergents, and thus needs to be changed on the 500-1500 mile interval. |

Here is a site that Louis referred me to regarding the recommended "safe" oils if you will. All props go to him regarding this!
http://store.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/graphics/news/Forced%20Performance%20Recommendations%20for%20Mot or%20Oil.pdf[/URL] What he's saying and explaining makes more and more sense as I get more into this. Getting this info out there is more important that simply speculating and claiming it can't be the case. This may save a number of folks a serious headache and expense with a relatively simple switch and I appreciate everything Louis and the LG folks are helping me with!

I use amsoil 10w-30 z-rod full synthetic now and run the JRE rough idle blower cam and a e-force supercharger. What weight and oil brand would you recommend to give the best protection and still allow me to change my oil every 2500-3000 miles. Theres no way I would use a oil that requires me to change it every 500-1500 miles thats just insane seeing as my car is a street car but I do drive it hard. Heres a link to what I use, its supposed to be good with high zinc and phos. Let me know what you think. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/zrt.aspx

Valvoline Vr1 20/50 non synthetic is what I use per my builder. BUT there is a 10-30 Vr1 synthetic and non that have plenty of Zinc and phosphate in them. I get mine at Oreilley's and its on sale right now at 4.99 in my area.
