While it was my first AutoX in the ZR1, that wasn't a killer lap. A prep'd Miata slaughtered me by 2 seconds.

A guy in front of me got out of control and went wide in a corner, over corrected and ended up in a service area and ran over a bunch of parts/tools and sprayed a few pieces on the track. Not sure what I ran over but between "it" and the wheel..."it" won. Had to be a pretty solid piece to smash a wheel like that. Luckily aside from the tire losing some of its rim-guard, the tire is fine according to a Tire shop I stopped at. Just need to figure out how to fix the wheel or if it's toast. |

Spoolin where you running in the purple group? I did the first round with blue and almost fell asleep we were going so slow so I had them bump me up to purple. The last round I was working towards catching the guy in the red Ferrari but he ended up getting black flagged before I could finish realing him in.
So far I'm impressed with the car, I might need to make some cooling system modifications as I was running pretty warm all day. I don't think we got the coolant water mixture right. If that doesn't fix it then I'll look into a different radiator and oil cooler setup. |

When I ran my car at buttonwillow my oil got hot (307) but coolant temps stuck around 255. Ambient that weekend was 107 so i wasn't too surprised. Yesterday I pulled the rain guard off the hood vent and the hottest the oil temps got was about 280 and coolant temps were 235's. Then again I really didn't push my car very hard for any full laps. First session was learning the track and following the people in front of me to see what they do and second session was going about 80% listening to the instructor. Which car were you in? I didn't see any other Camaro's in my group, then again I didn't really see the whole field. That Banking freaks me out!! |

I was in the white Z/28. I know after the second session the kid in the red Ferrari got in trouble for open passing lol. I tried talking to them but they weren't too friendly.
I was hitting 145 at the end of the straight and pushing 125 through the big turn, car would've went faster but my balls weren't big enough lol. The course was a blast, only other courses I've run are spring mountain and Las Vegas motor speedway road course. I don't like how hot the car runs though, my off road car is rock solid at 210 racing and it's a 700 hp 418 LS3 with not too big of radiator. I'll get it figured out, might have to get a custom radiator made and mess with the fan setting on HP tuners. |

Nice meeting a couple of ya'll. Ended up running a 2:01 as my best time for the day. My uncle in the red z/28 bested me with a 2:00. Never been to fontana for a teack daylight before but it was totally rad. I loved flying around turn 1-2 like a nascar... lol. Cant wait for the next track day. Need a more agressive pad for braking and going to look into installing a oil cooler. Overall had a badass time.

Yeah I don't have the balls yet for that banked turn, Fastest I approached it was 133 and then coasted around in the 1-teens. G-meter was only reading .8 so I know the tires can do more but...yeah I don't have the Ca-hones for that just yet. I was next to the ferrari guy for a little while at registration and the guy seemed a little egotistic so I let him be. Quote:
Congrats Kirk! Did you get any vids? How did it feel with the newfound power? |
