LS7 build numbers
http://www.autonews.com/article/2013...#axzz2ejShmVhc
This paragraph has me going hmmm. "Production at GM's Performance Build Center is winding down this fall with the last V-8s for a special race-ready version of the Camaro. GM is moving production of crate engines -- sold to customers for use in custom autos -- to other plants." Would you interpret that as they will build some LS7's at the current Wixom plant, then move the LS7 build process to.... elsewhere? Just seems odd as the Z/28 is the last gasp for the 427. Maybe the Z will come with a different engine after the existing built engines run dry....hmmm.

There will probably only be ~500 Z/28s built, IMO. No trouble to do buildahead on engines for those, as well as any service needs.
If they ever need/want to assemble more later, well, they can do that in KY after they start up again. |

...it was pretold Wixom works was moving to Bowling Green <as if I remember correctly> along time ago. About the engine production of final assemby production numbers on the LS7 designated to go into a production line chasis, it's a crap shoot. There was an EPA deal that allowed leeway for Chevy to use them in Z06's, and that contract will be expiring soon. However, crate motor GMPP LS7's will still be available.

Isn't the move to Bowling Green supposed to happen at almost the exact same time as the start of Z/28 production? I can't think thats a co-incidence.

The article does say they are building V-8's for the Camaro until the fall. Wixom then prepares to close in 01/2014. I guess we might get early Z/28's (or perhaps the entire 14 run) with Wixom LS7's, and then 2015's till the refresh with B. Green LS7's.
With GM team Camaro big on the Z/28 having a high redline smallblock it seems the LS7 is the only option until the refresh and all options are on the table again.
