Its all about future crash standards that are going to be put in place.. and its not side impact.. its rollover standards.. I'll have to find the post but I think currently its set at 1/2 the cars weight and some lobbyists got that increased effective on all 2009 or 2010 production vehicles.

Give me some time to find that information.

Heres part of it.. Link
And the poeple to blame Link
And here is the ruling by the nhtsa Link

gurulu68,

You make some fine points. Now, I'd love to see what someone from GM has to say about those points. If weight isn't the issue (since it's possible it won't weigh that much), then what the heck is keeping them from reinforcing the roof and keeping that dreaded b-pillar out of there??

It has to be the rules that have been imposed on the automakers buy the government and they don't want to take any chances.

Even in a roll over the boron steel will hold up. I have hit a 3 1/2 foot by 6 inch flat piece of rear body panel with a 5 pound hammer as hard as I could and it didn't put a dent in it. Btw there are many grades of boron steel so they can make it as strong as they want.

From the looks of that B-pillar, it seems Dodge is trying to hide theirs too. It doesn't look like the outside of that is going to be exposed at all.

And in that pic above, it is assured there won't be any roll down window either.

Good find.

I don't know, it looks to me like the pillar will be exposed right between the two windows. Right where the pillar is flat and smooth. Maybe it's just my eyes though.

Nah, that flat, smooth part of the b-pillar is where they'll glue the rubber molding that will seal up the trailing edge of the door window.

The way that the "framing" (between the B and C pillars) is recessed, they are going to attach glass to it and give it the right look from the outside.

Ah, ok, I see it now. It's hard to get that depth perception in a flat picture like that. Hopefully the Camaro will look somewhat similar to that.

However, knowing the Camaro designers, it most likely won't...

... It will look 50 times better!
