What about hiring a lawyer and let them fight your case, traffic lawyers usually aren't to bad or delay the case until your return. But write everything down so you're not recalling it from memory later on.

call and request they move the court date up as you are deploying, cant imagine they would have an issue with that.

This is where things get bad: The cop says he's sorry but he has to hold me at fault. He says I ran a red light. Mind you, I'm on leave back home in Chicago, where there are several corners with photo taking red light cameras, this being one of those corner. I asked the cop if I ran the red light, then why didn't the camera flash? He couldn't explain that. I would stay and try to fight this in court but I deploy very soon. Effen CPD. fml...
The way red light cameras here work if you are past the sensor before the light turns red it won't take a picture. How wide and how long does it take to cross the intersection? How fast were you driving when you entered the intersection. Could it be possible that the light was already yellow before you entered the intersection and turned red just as you entered it and you just didn't notice it red? Glad nobody was hurt.

Firstly, thanks for your service and stay safe on deployment

The red light cam may end up working in your favor

I'm not so sure your insurance company is gonna be quick to accept fault on this. I can see it maybe turning into a partial fault situation.

If your light was turning red then so was the Saturn driver's. It's common for people to sit in the middle of intersections waiting to turn left and sometimes the light turns red so they have to go because they are blocking the intersection. Unless he had a protected left turn arrow then you both ran the red, or yellow so I can't see how one person had more right-away then the other. Also, how could they not see you.

Lucky it wasn't a head on I guess, good luck.

Well the good news the body shop said they'll be able to get everything fixed and back to perfect condition. I talked to the folks at the police station and down at traffic services downtown, and based on my story, they're gonna get me in front of a judge asap. My insurance company is backing me up at least.

In SC if any part of your wheels are across the stop line and the light is still yellow, you have not run a red light. I believe you also have to clear the intersection in a reasonable amount of time. The Saturn never gave you a chance to clear when it turned into you without the right of way.
