You guys (and gals) build some awesome cars. I can go back and probably quote every one of you saying, "I'm thinking a CAI and some headers, but that's it."

Now back to those halfshafts. I want to know how grease worked it's way out.

i am not sure i ever said that... i think we temporarily replaced my mufflers to straight pipe..... just to get me by until we did the PC and the exhaust. haha... maybe 1k miles into it.

and yes... I can hear Petes wheels turning from here...

FYI... grease would be an awful ice cream flavor

Dude. I'm cracking up. You're 100'% right I had not intentions going this far but's it's all good, now I have a new hobby.

I want to hear about the grease deal too. Another question to find out about. I want to avoid that as much as possible. Nobody wants grease spewing out underneath your tires. Could be dangerous (not Russ, LOL), I hope Kyle gets it sorted out.

As for ice cream. I love it. Just doesn't agree with me. I'm lactose intollerant.

When my friends want to play a joke on me they put milk in alcoholi beverages.

I don't know if you ever said that, lol.

I'm concerned about the half shafts though. Mine are smaller and OEM and I've wondered about that angle myself since my car is lowered. This started way back with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and half shafts up front that would split and throw grease everywhere.

Hey but doesn't a PC void your warranty?

I can ship it to you, but it's $130.00 (4 1/2 gallons are the minimum). Not sure you're worth that.

Articulation in the rear suspension is directly related to shaft angle. For discussion lets say we used a 5kg (275lb) coil on car a and A 10kg (550lb) on car B. The range of motion on car A would be greater and the shaft angle changes wider in range than car B. The shafts in car A would run hotter than in car B. The amount of traction from tire A to tire B has a similar effect on heat. Add in other variables such as driving style, ambient and track temperatures... It all comes down to how hot did the CV lube get. When the lube slings out of the boot the one thing we absolutely know is the lube got too hot.

Does this help?

Dude. You know your shiz'nizzy. So, two people that lowered vehicle 1" or whatever, different springs compression one has the issue the other doesn't. I get it now.

Kyle, was the boot cleaned up before you took this picture?

If not, to me this looks similar to a failing pinion seal with the tell-tale sling on the bottom of the car. Does differential fluid flow out this far before the half shaft?

the boot was not cleaned up. the boot is not ripped this time either.

also... i think some of those 10mm bolts may be less the the recommended torque spec'ed. Which may be leaking grease if it was liquidfied through the threads? I will be retightening them all to 57lbs tonight and cleaning it up.

and I am not an expert and barely know anything... but from what I was told by my "pit crew" up here... that was definitely grease from the CV, no diff fluid.
