I wonder if the added weight contributed to the 4 star rating?

If you look at the frame structure, it looks like most of the structural work was done around the rear and passenger compartment areas. The front overhang is short and there isn't much metal to absorb the impact of a frontal crash. Most of that energy will get transmitted to the passengers, unfortunately.

Really bummed it didn't get the 5-star rating overall. Buying something safer was one of my top priorities this time around.

You may be right that front frame looks a bit skimpy on metal.

All the hooplah about weight adding to the safety of the car and the Camaro isn't even the safest car in the segment?

Ehhhhh.... Good thing it's taken 12 weeks and my car is still not here... This may actually put me in a Mustang if it takes a bit longer. A world class company producing 4 star crash rated cars? Ehhhhhhhhhhhh, bad feeling guys.

Lackluster 4 Star Crash Test Video Footage...

I don't know about you guys, but this was the first point in this whole process where I was glad the car has not been delivered, and I have some time to decide if I want it after this.

I don't plan on crashing mine and could really care less what the safety rating is. I have never once purchased a car and looked up its safety/crash rating. Just my .02

I thought all that extra weight was because they wanted 5 stars all around. I bet someone is losing thier job...:(
Then again GM will tell us on THIER tests it got 5 stars all around to save face.

I've been thinking about this today and, you know what, I'm pretty satisfied that the Camaro is safe. Remember, the driver of this car didn't die and was able to get back on the forums to tell us as much of the story as he could remember. From the looks of it, the worst of the damage occured directly between the framerails rather than having the rails hit a flat wall.

Let me guess you never care if your car has seat belts either? nobody plans on crashing. that doesnt mean someone wont smash into you head first, what kind of statement is that? if i were you i would knock on wood ASAP

Wow, that actually looks worse than I expected. You can actually see the deformation moving past the front clip and the shock of the crash transmitting back into the area of the passenger cabin. For obvious reasons, that is bad. Challenger and Mustang front impact testing looks drastically different....and better. Heck, even the Mustang convertible fares better than this in frontal impact testing.
