Damn .. you ain't lived until you hit the hilly twisties with a stick. The last time I did it was the last car I owned with a stick cause my brief's rode up my crotch and cut off circulation. Wasn't aware of it until I tried to get out of the car. I was on my knees for 10 minutes. This is true. Now I'll probably get flamed for not having G-Force defying briefs or something else in the "space-age technology" genre but in those days it was Hurst, Holley and your left foot.
If you do not get a stick you will always wonder until you finally do. But in my case I learned on a first-gen Vee-Dub. The choice was a no-brainer for me and today's automatics aren't necessarily the slush boxes they use to be. |

Tap shift sucks. No point. Just a toy.
Get the stick kid. You'll have more fun and yes, you do get used to it to the point where you don't even notice it. That being said. It's overrated to me any more. 22 years of driving, Nine of it 18 Wheelers, the thrill of shifting gears was gone long ago. |

Autos are for chicks and uh...cats (you know what I mean). Anyway, manuals are much more fun; you feel more involved and have much better control over the car.

If you are that young you need to get a stick. If you drive in a city you may want to opt for an auto going from light to light. I live in Dallas.........auto is what I ordered and I'm not a "CAT" you know what I mean.........I just have really bad knees and they can't take a stick like they used to. Until you have had a couple of knee operations you don't need to tell them they are for "CATS" ...........I used to drive an 18 wheeler also and I have enough of the shifting in my lifetime. I'm 52 and you will be 16...........get a stick.

HI Jordan I for one have been driving a manual transmission since I was 19. I am 51 now and that is all I buy. One thing nice about a manual is not alot of people know how to drive it. So if you get a Camaro with a stick shift, you will not have to worry about other people borrowing it. Maybe that's why you mom and uncle want you to get a auto so they can borrow it all the time.. Leaving you at home with their auto.. No really it helps to develop hand and eye coordination with the brain. Then latter on if you decide to get a motorcycle you will be all set because you know how to drive a manual. left hand clutch, left foot shift, right hand front brake, right foot rear brake..
Besides all that manual save you about a $1000 when you order it. An auto cost about $1500 to rebuild were a clutch and pressure plate is around $500.. |

I would have ordered a stick if it was not for a bad left knee.
Just can not handle the bending with the little bit of pressure that it puts on it. I have my Harley for my shifting fun. Will have as much fun as possible with tap shift. Young again stick all the way. |

You know, just as I typed that and entered it earlier, I did consider that.
The thing stoping me from the manual beleive it or not is the remote start. A really handy thing in the muggy south sometimes. True. It's all I did for 9 yrs. and I mean ALL I did. I never drove a reg. vehicle. Got in a freinds manual Eclipse and you would think I never saw a stick shift before. Very awkeward but only took a few miles to get it back. |
