Service station fuel filter maintenace - experts please step in!

On another thread, we talked about choosing a brand.

This thread isn't that. We debated that before. "All from same tanker", "Top tier gas" "ppm detergent" "quaternary ammonium salts carry nitrogen compounds" (ok, thats from me), "ethenol", "epa" yadda yadda.

My big thing is all that goes away if the stations fuel filter isn't replaced. For years I avoid the stations with funky looking pumps and where their drink fridge smells moldy. Member jaysonstuart mentioned some stations have maintenance monitors that tell them to replace the filter and other stuff. I also know some filters detect if their is water and shut off.

My question is how do you know if a station does change their filters regularly? Looks alone isn't enought.

If the service station sells dill pickles then that means they change the filters every 4th Friday. If they only sell sweet pickles then they change them every 3rd Friday. Now if they don't sell any pickles DON'T BUT GAS FROM THEM.... Hope this helps ya..
