Shipping Spring Spacers?
Can someone please explain the shipping spring spacers to me? Where exactly will they be located and what do they look like? I want to make sure I know what I'm looking for when mine comes in. Thanks.

The dealer is supposed to remove them and place them in your glove box during prep, but seems like some are not doing it or not informed. They are yellow on the 13's. If you bend down and look behind the front tires, at the springs, you will see yellow things jammed in between the springs (one on each spring, 2 total) if they are still in there, cant miss them. The car also sits higher with them still in. Hope that helps. I think the car has to be jacked by the body to open the spacers to get them out too.

I thought they were used for shipping to increase the front end ground clearance to clear the loading ramps on the trucks due to the low ground clearance because of the ZL1's chin spoiler.

If there is no electrical charge to the fluid of an MRC damper it has virtually no damping function.

If the use of the spacers is due to no dampening in the shocks, then why are there only spacers in the front springs and not at all four corners?
Just curious. |

Yep, I was wrong! It's in the owner's manual.
Now when you do start receiving these vehicles, be aware that it has very low ground clearance. The front shock absorbers have a spring spacer or stuffer installed at the factory to raise the front of the vehicle during shipping. They must be removed during PDI, but should be placed in the vehicle glove box for the customer to reuse if they trailer or haul the vehicle at a later date. Because the front end of the vehicle sets so low to the ground, it's important to reinstall these front spring spacers to raise the front suspension prior to loading onto a flatbed carrier. Please, ask your sales person to pass this information along to the customer. The information on the use of the spacers is in the owner manual under Towing the Vehicle. BTW! I've been wrong before and it won't be the last time............LOL! |
