Window Tinting - Is this a good deal and the right choice?
Hey guys,
Going to get 20% on the side windows and 15% on the rear window. Its $150 for the whole thing; the guy claims hes been tinting windows for 32 years and his partner for 25 years, Seems to good to be true? Also, texas state registered car driving in louisiana u think I can get away with the tints? Grant

Thats a decent price.. I would just go 20 all around.. its hard enough to see out of the rear window.. Doing 15 on the rear isnt going to make much of a difference. My buddy does tinting for a living. IF he does the rear window in say 15 or 20 its only because he did like 35 or 50 on the sides.. Otherwise its all the same percentage.

That's not bad. Before the wreck, I had mine done 30 on the sides, and 20 on the back, for 125 in Georgia. Turned out great. The dealer here in Texas has a guy that is doing 30 all the way around for 200.

Personally, I wouldn't mix it UNLESS your back window has some factory tint on it and you need to adjust to "even out" the tint all around. I don't think the Camaros have that though. But it's not uncommon on other vehicles.
I have yet to pull the trigger on my 2011 SS1, but the initial plan is to do 5% (limo tint) all around. I've had it on the last few vehicles I've owned and I love it. Of course, my eyes are sensitive to bright lights so that may be why. I will say at night, I normally roll the windows down so I can see better if making a turn or backing up on a non-lighted road. For the record, I live in OK and have no probs with the po-po. Oh yeah, as for pricing. My last vehicle to get tinted was a 2007 Nissan Titan crew cab (lots more window space than Camaro) and I only paid $125 for that. The guy I use has his own shop & over 30 years experience. I've used him multiple times as it's good quality and cheap. |

FYI, Texas legal limit is 30 for the sides. With as small as the windows are on a Camaro, there's no need to go super dark. Ours has 30 on the sides and 20 on the back IIRC. We paid around 160, but we got 3M thermal tint - WORTH IT! Keeps the heat out as well as some light, so your car stays even cooler.

I've been doing some research on window tinting (this is the first car I've ever had that deserves tinted windows ). To compare prices, you really have to know what type of window tint material is being used. Check out the link here http://www.tintcenter.com/articles/bt_types.html. They also have a link to the legal limits by state. Looks like both TX and LA require dealer certifications on installation to be legal.
I've also found some ceramic window film that 3M has that look good but they aren't available in as dark a tint as I would like. |

It's hard to tell if it's a good price without knowing what type of tint he is planning on using. I have ceramic and it's more expensive as a general rule but it also blocks heat better. I have 30% and it's plenty dark, if it were any darker it would significantly decrease my visibility at night.
The other thing I've noticed is the rear window looks a lot darker than the side windows even though they are the same percentage.
