Local dealership $15K over!

Wow no wonder I ordered my ZL1 from out of state. I called an in-state dealer this afternoon, and they sold there first ZL1 at 15K over invoice! The guy said he could order me a 2012 still and that it would be ready for pickup in 8 weeks!!! I wanted to say, "IDIOT!! All orders now are 2013's!!!" I did say that all orders now will be 2013's and he said "well probably but we can still get you one ordered!" umm NO! I'll stick with my MSRP order.
Also, yesterday I called another dealership in the same town and the salesman told me that the ZL1's he sold were all 2013's! Bahahaha. Yes again this is why I am buying out of state!! These guys are idiots!! I told him that '13's weren't going to be started until June, and they all come now with touch screen radios!!
I wonder sometimes how good of car salesman we all could be here on C5 with having more knowledge about this particular car than that of the dealers!! You would think you would want to know your product inside and out!! Especially something as HOT as the ZL1!

They will do anything to sell you a car. Some tell the truth, while some have no clue and pull things out of thin air.

Good for you on standing your ground. Just be thankful that we have an awesome site like this so we can find out what's really going on with the auto world.

Wow.. You could fly just about anywhere in the ConUS, buy one and drive it home for 13,000 less than that.

We have local dealership that is notorious for "market adjustments" that was asking $10k over for the Boss 302 a couple of months back. I haven't bothered to stop by recently.

Pretty typical stuff. But in defense of some salespeople. They have to know about all the different brands and models they sell, not just the Camaro, and not just the ZL1. Most aren't able to obsese about 1 model like we've been able to for years. Just trying to look at things from their side of things. But in all honesty if it was my job I'd learn as much as possible about ALL the models that I sell. And I sure wouldn't just make up crap if someone asked me about something I wasn't sure of. I'd tell them I'm not sure but I can sure get back to you with an answer.

HAHAH wow this reminds me of a story of mine. this winter when me and my father were after the 2012 zl1 we went to the biggest, best dealership in our area, where my father bought his first camaro, and where i intended to buymine, and the same thing happened! they wanted 70k for their only zl1 allocation!!! i doubt they sold it considering they had three 3 corvettes, including a ZR1, that were all atleast 10k over msrp....what a DISGRACE!!!

Does anybody know anybody who has paid this markup yet? the ones on ebay are not selling.

I am starting to realize car dealers either just would rather lie than tell the truth or are stupid. I have had two try to tell me they could still order a 2012.

The single purpose the car salesmen have when they are cooresponding with you outside the dealership, is to get you to come into the dealership......using whatever tactics they need to is acceptable in many cases.

When someone is calling about a specific new car , they have you hooked. They can blow anything off as a misunderstanding, the factory is doing it different etc etc, but once they have you physically there, the odds they will sell you a vehicle go up like a rocket. They are proffesional salesmen, so they know what they are doing, and often do it well.

OHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Are you sure you dont live in Northeast Ohio???? after reading your first post i just sat there for a second in shock. although im not sure why i was shocked because my local dealers are just as stupid! I was informed by a friend whos buddy is a salesman at the dealership that they were getting ONE ZL1 and it wasnt sold yet. I went there the same day and was told that they had LOST THE ALLOCATION!!!! Really??? Do I look like I was born yesterday? What he REALLY meant was ya I sold it already but I would love to push you into buying this 1SS convertible that you dont want!!!!! I didnt have to go out of state to get mine but I did have to go about 2 hours away Its sad to think these are the dumbasses selling these cars

Salesmen

I like the salesmen that told me all they did to the ZL1 was change the rims, hood and front bumper. I told him oh ya wait till you get too ride in one. The next time I seen him he took back what he said and said that ZL1 is a beast. Some salesmen really need too know what they're selling. on info salesmen.
