I'm still holding out hope. We really don't know a whole lot more than we did a few days ago. I'd settle for a fifth gen 1LE but a car of that nature would do the z28 name just fine.

I know the 6th Gen will be lighter, however I don't believe it will be 3-400 lbs lighter. I'm thinking more like 200 max. That brings me back to wanting a 5th Gen Z28! NOW!!!

We already know that the ATS with the current V6 is 3402, if I'm not mistaken the current V6 is very close to the SBC V8 in weight. Subtract some weight for being two door instead of four door, subtract some weight for extra Cadillac content, I can easily see 300-400 less than the current SS which is closer to 3,900 lb.

The Camaro's drivetrain, wheels, tires, brakes and suspension will all be heavier than the small Caddie's. Then add the V8. I'm sticking with 200 lbs.

See above after edit. What will be so much heavier on the Chevy drivetrain? Engine...similar weights, wheels.......shouldn't be that much in weight, tires.....they're not going to run "tricycle" tires on the ATS......it is supposed to have market niche performance equal to others. Look at the current difference between models built on the same chassis, the Cadillacs are all heavier even with the same exact engine/drivetrain, see CTS-V and ZL1.

I'm guessing 17" or 18" wheels on the base 3,400 lb ATS. Also smaller brakes, tires. The Z28 will have a lot more performance than a base ATS ( I sure hope so) therefore the drivetrain will be "built" to handle it, etc.

The 3,402 lb I quoted with the V6 is NOT the base ATS (the base and mid model are both 4cyl. and lighter than 3,400 lb), that is a performance version. Look at the dimensions of the ATS compared to the 5th gen Camaro:
length: ATS 182.8" (call it 183) 5th gen. Camaro 190.4, width: ATS 71.1" Camaro 75.5", height: ATS 55.9" Camaro 54.7, wheelbase: ATS 109 Camaro 112.3. Four doors on the ATS and only two doors on a 6th gen Camaro, ATS weight with largest engine 3,402 lb., weight of 5th gen SS around 3,850 lb. Less sound deadening and less of the Cadillac overall content will also make a difference, so I still see the 6th gen Camaro being 300/400 lb less than a fifth gen. Camaro.

We'll see the 2 door coupe ATS in a couple of months. That'll put us closer the Gen6 Camaro footprint.

IIRC, the "expectation" moving forward was for a "5-10%" weight reduction. Seems like V6-to-V6, we'll likely see a '12 LS V6 shrink from now-3,730 lbs. to something around 34-3450, very close to 10%.

Nice to see them taking the weight issue seriously which, with CAFE '16 approaching, they MUST.

Gen 6 Premonition?

Yes, it's rear wheel drive. Yes it weighs much less than current Camaro. Yes I am sure the designers could make it look more like a Camaro of tomorrow! Yes it could carry a Z28 monicker with the right design. Yes it could weigh less than a Boss. Yes it can probably fit an LS3. Yes it would be FAAASSSSST........ very FAST. PS: It's from the current Detroit show and is called Chevy Code130r. Got it from Autoweek.

(but those damn small seats would kill me)
