Need Help..Lifter issue or belt noise??

One says normal, one says belt, I say lifter. This noise happens on startup sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes longer. This was today after about an hours drive on the interstate. Oil level, pressure, temp all normal just this stupid noise is driving me nuts. Been in to the dealer once they said its ok.

To me I would say lifter epically if it goes away after a couple of seconds. I'm assuming it was cold today in Illinois? Could be caused by a thinner oil and really isn't harmless. I could be wrong though.

around 38 in Illinois where I was at. Local mechanic put a little grease on the belt last month and the noise went away for a week or so.

I'd get a mechanics stethoscope from an auto parts store, and listen to the valve covers when it is making that noise. You can also clean the pilling out of the belt grooves on the belt and pulley, very carefully with a brush while idling. But, I've not heard a belt make that sound. Sounds like the lifter issue.

You don't want to use any dressing or grease on this type of belt. It can cause the pilling of debris to fill up the grooves.

My car did the exact same thing. I video'd it also. It turned out being the AC compressor going bad. Replaced by dealership under warranty.

Also your dealership is freaking nuts if they say thats normal or ok. You should tell them to start any other camaro on their lot to see if it makes the same noise.

So car went in today for the same issue. I emailed them several videos showing the noise along with the one above. They ended up replacing the AC Compressor and belt. Seems to have resolved the issue but time will tell. Now to deal with the damage they caused to my stripes when the washed it.
