On the other hand, a car that you plan to keep forever never depreciates. I will drive it until the wheels fall off and then put four more on it. As more ZL1 tech trickles down to lesser Camaros' such as magnetic ride control and the 5 performance modes the ZL1s will lose value and won't be as unique to some. Hopefully GM keeps some exclusivity in owning these cars, but whatever will be in the future has nothing to do with how good this car is today. I am living for the moment when it comes to automobiles.

Repeat after we. Cars are not investments.
Maybe if you bought one, locked it away with no miles on it and willed it to a grandchild it may be worth something in 50 years, maybe. For those of us driving and enjoying them, they depreciate every day. |

I really wouldn't worry about depreciation on the ZL1 unless, as some may have, you overpaid for one. That is a main reason why I refuse to overpay or pay msrp on any car; Essentially in a few years the car will become worth-less (aka worth less than what you paid for it).
However, as someone mentioned, if you keep the car indefinitely and if it doesn't become a major money pit, the car will make up for the loss in value with good service and enjoyment. Any appreciation that may come afterwards (18-20 years or more) will be icing on the cake.

Take this for what it's worth
I am a car dealer and until just recently a pretty serious drag racer (google my name) The last motorhome I had dropped from 475k in 2009 to 235k last spring The last stacker trailer I used to cart the race cars around with dropped from 140k in 2007 to 65k last spring. The purpose built 69 Bickel Camaro I took delivery of in October of 2010 cost about 325k turnkey with a spare motor and brought 200k about 90 days ago On the other hand. My 70 Chevelle LS5 and 66 Chevelle SS 396 cars sold for a combined 75k plus last spring. That's way more than new My point is. We don't have a clue what the future holds. We do know we will absolutely positively not cheat death. You gonna have your kids stuff your money in your casket or are you gonna enjoy some of it and let your kids decide whether to sell or keep your toys. After all. They will be worth 100% more than THEY paid for them. The ZL1 is way cool. ENJOY IT and every thing else life hands you. After all. It's short and in the end. All we have is memories. |

No... 5-10 years from now, ZL1's will be in the 20-25k range. Look at the previous GT500 years. Modern muscle cars are not investments. Enjoy your ZL1, if you plan to sell it, plan to take a loss.

I was looking into buying a similar 1967 corvette coupe that I sold back in 1983. It was a L71 maroon 427/435-hp tripower coup that I purchased in 1974 for 3000.00 with 58000 miles on it. Could of got a 1963 split window coup for the same price. This car sold new for about 6800.00. I sold it in 1983 for 11500.00. They made over 6700 if I am correct that year and less than 1900 with a 427. I've been looking for over 3 years to get a deal on 1967 big block vett. Could not find a decent one for less than 80k. Wish to this day I kept it. Not because of the appreciation value but now its out of my price range to get one. On the other hand, if I had put that 3k into Microsoft shares that year, I could of bought a hundred of these today. I will keep my 2012 ZL1 till I die. And I will hand it down.

Probably, but who knows how much. Look at otherpurpose built cars for example, buick gn, gnx, cyclone, typhoon. All 80 s era cars that should be worth scrap value. Go try and buy one of those for cheap. When i sold my gn i got what i paid for it after i drove the hell out of it for 6 years only $2 k less than it cost new. Gnxs sell for more than when new. I agree mainline cars depreciate like every thing else, corvettes and cadillacs being the worst. Zl1 probably not as bad.

In 40 years won't be gas cars so it will never be like 69 Z28s. Buy a ZL1 now and enjoy!!!

In the short run no but at some point maybe 15-20 years it'll be worth more. It's like that with most cars.

Depreciation ?? Why keep this car for someone else to buy and enjoy in the future. If you own one of these things, break it in, drive it, race it until its last breath. Enjoy these cars and cherish the memories. Tis is my fourth camaro and this time i plan to fully take advantage of it. This is my point of view.
