I hope this means ZL1s will be at less than MSRP before the 4th of July

Who cares, guys. Did you buy your car because you like it or because some magazine likes it?

Stock for stock, it might be slower. Who here has kept their car stock?

Therefore, your suggestion that the GT500 is only good in a straight line is unfounded until data comes forth to say otherwise.

If I were to get the 2013 GT500, I would be happy with just the base model. It is all you need to show the tail lights to its main competitor in a straight line. And we don't know yet how the base model does in a roadcourse venue. There is a misconception that you need the SVT-PP and/or the Track Package to go straight fast. Not so. The base GT500 will do just that for less $ than the ZL1.

If I were to use it for the occasional road course events, I would get the SVT package. I believe the car needs it to chase a ZL1 in roads with turns. There is a misconception that you need the SVT performance package AND the track package to roadcourse.

If I were to use it for more than the occasional roadcourse runs, I would add the track package as well.

I really like that Ford has done it this way. Giving the customer the options to be excellent at each venue or all, as they choose.

Evan Smith apparently was running 11.8s @ 123 mph.

However, the video claims the engine was heat soaked at this point.

Obviously, there are many among us that have gone much faster as we aquired seat time....a very key component when drag racing a Z06 as the clutch hates drag race launches.

I suspect the 2013 GT500 vs C6 Z06 matchups are going to be very close.....the new GT500 is a brute of a car. But make no bones about it......with "only" 505 HP a C6 Z06 is still a VERY formadable opponent, is cheaper than either the ZR1 of GTR (in base 1LZ mode), and I can't wait for my first heads up matchup with a new GT500 at the strip.
The z06 is indeed a formidable opponent. I haven't driven a z06 that didn't have the z07 package so I'm wondering how do the times compared between the 1lz and 3lz with the z07 package.

And you have to take into the account even though the z06 has less hp it weighs like 600 pounds less. So for the shelby too blow past everything and get to z06/z07 levels is just amazing given how the z07 is now I think 110k or so?

The ZL1 clearly out handles the Shelby (look at the lat g readings). You pay an additional 10k to get all the options on the Shelby. Spend that 10k on performance mods under the hood on the ZL1 and you win (no, i am not factoring your precious warranty into this equation). I will say that Ford was smart and included the Recaro option - Chevy needs to catch up with the seats it provides.

i thought it very logical you're risking a lot without at least the cooling options for the vehicle on a road course. you'll never see official times without it, which is exactly why i said what i said. so until someone drops the 54k on a base car to prove this point... i can't really be wrong can i? i felt safe in the assumption of what i was saying.

Overall a great car.
according to edmunds TMV pricing, the average person is paying $70,400 for a base model z06

Isn't the new gt500 a 2013? ZL1 is a 2012. 2012 ZL1 outperforms a 2012 GT500 correct? So now your left with a 2013 GT500 outperforming a 2012 ZL1. GM still has time to add something for 2013 if they choose don't they? Either way its great for both cars. Enjoy it while it lasts....

SVT designed the car and Ford builds it. The Shelby name is used for marketing purposes only - there is nothing Shelby about the GT500.

And just in case you don't believe me...

You know, before you start accusing others of not knowing what they're talking about, you might want to buy a clue first.

Shelby had a bit of input, but that's as far as it went. The car was ultimately designed in house by SVT(Ford) and it is built in Flat Rock, Michigam. It's ultimately a marketing scheme used by Ford to license Shelby's name to sell cars. That's really all there is to it.
I am not saying shelby designed the car. All I'm saying is people who say all he did was put his name on it are wrong. Which they are. Shelby drove the car and as the video states if he didn't like something he told them and they fixed it. Granted 95 percent of the credit should go to Jamaal and the rest of the team. But shelby played an active part as well as Jamaal has stated and thanked him for as well.

I look at it like this. Yes the ZL1 will take the corners SLIGHTLY better than the Shelby but it will not be enough to overcome the brute hp and speed advantage the Shelby has. On a big track like the ring the Shelby is gonna put A LOT of distance on the ZL1. Yes it will make up some in the corners but now all of it. This is just my prediction but it can go either way.

And dont think for a second that there isnt aftermarket suspension components to make ALL these cars much better than factory form.
I don't think it will make the Boss look silly. The Shelby looks to be the better car but there is something about a high revving NA V8. I can tell you my 13 Boss is a lot more fun to drive than my 11 GT500 with SVTPP.

Comments from Evan Smith on his runs. A little hard to hear.
