Thumbs up Pace Setter Cat Back

Just got my Pace Setter Cat Back installed...It's perfect (for me at least). I get zero Drone, idle is quiet, but when you give it gas you can hear it.

Bought it from Jegs and was on backorder for 2 months (worth the wait). I paid $430 shipped. Here's the link: http://www.jegs.com/i/Pace+Setter/766/86-2908K/10002/-1

This Cat Back is perfect for those that are looking for zero drone, but a nice rumble when you hit the gas and it's cheaper than some of the axle backs out there.

I have JBA catted mid-pipes as well, I'm sure the Cat-Back is quieter for stock catted vehicles.

Only con I have are the U Clamps, but those could be replaces with exhaust Band Clamps.

I'll try and take sound clip this week...

I just ordered that same system for my wifes LS. Part # 86-2908 fits both v-6 and v-8 models. I paid $355 shipped to my door from Amazon.com. I will post on how the install and sound goes later on.

I hope people paying $1400 for a catback feel dumb after seeing this. This is the reason I waited to buy a catback. You can buy this and headers for the price of "quality" cat back.

By the way, the install was on a v-6. Install was real simple. The stock exhaust came off in about 10 minutes. The front pacesetter pipe with the x-pipe fits directly into the factory mounting hardware. Then it has 2 intermediate baffles that clamp on after the x-pipe. Then the 2 longer pipes clamp onto the baffles and use the factory hangers at the rear. Finally the muffler/ tip clamps to the longer tubes and uses the factory hangers at the rear. Just leave everything loose until you have all the pieces lined up exactly where you want. The most difficult portion of the install was centering the tips. One other thing to mention is the center frame crossmember that had to be removed to take out the factory exhaust now has to be shimmed with 1/4" spacers when it is re-installed as to not come in contact with the pacesetter baffles. This is something pacesetter does not supply in the kit. easy enough to get at a local hardware store for a couple of bucks.
Sound clips coming shortly. I can say thatthe system looks great on the car. It sounds a little more like a ferrari with this exhaust system than a chevy now. At least it doesn't sound like a rice burner. The system would sound deeper on a v-8.
The pacesetter definately gave the car a good amount of horsepower over the stock system and is at least a third the weight.

One more thing to add. I installed this in my driveway with the rear wheels on wheelramps and the front wheels driven up on a block of wood. This was more than enough height to do the job.

question, did it have the resonators that is on the front of the x-pipe like this one? looks like in your pictures they are not there. not sure if there is a difference between the v-6 or v-8 versions.
