Gassing up in Lubbock

Just curious where everyone fills up in Lubbock. I keep forgetting to ask whenever I end up talking to some of the other people that are running around with some hi-po cars. So far, I've only found The Flying J on 4th and I-27 that is carrying 91 octane. Anyone know of any other stations that are carrying it, or maybe a station that doesn't have any ethanol?

Also, I've never put much faith in the 'spotless rinse' at those DIY powerwash bay type places. While I was out getting gas I had $2 in quarters so I figured I'd rinse off the car. Soap, regular rinse, then the spotless rinse, took it out on the loop for a constant 70mph run and it worked out pretty well!

I tried doing the same thing after using a spot-free rinse but it didn't work out too well for me. I guess the filter was bad or something, because there was definitely streaking and spotting. Now I just use a towel to wipe the car down to get most of the water off...as long as there isn't hge beads of water it looks great just using one small blonde Zaino towel to dry the whole car.

I've tried to get a small blonde to dry mine off but she's keeps complaining about being in the trunk all the time.... and the constant banging while driving down the road is annoying. I may have to switch to the this "Zaino" stuff you are talking about!

I also fill up at the Flying J off 4th and I27. I used to fill up at other gas stations with my BMW and started having issues with the check engine light. When they checked it out they said it was the O2 sensor but part was not in stock. I read on a forum where it could be quality of gas causing buildup and they recommended shell gas. I filled it up at flying J and after a couple of days the check engine light went out and haven't had the issue any longer. I guess using the cleaners in their gas does help. That is why I usually take the Camaro and my BMW there. When I am out in Fort Worth for reserve duty I usually end up at the QT near the base because of convenience and the octane rating is 93!!!! Wish someone had that high a rating around here, I probably would stick with the flying J anyway..

The flying J gas caused my vette to ping like crazy. The 7-11 on frankford is typically where we go....

USAFR, I was told on one of the "quality gas" threads that we can't run 93 up here with our compression. It would be too hard on the engine to try to burn that high of an octane given our altitude. They mentioned that over 3000 ft, 91 octane was just the same as if we were running 93 closer to sea level.

True or not, I don't know... but sounded good!

Talked to the group that meets up at the Sonic. 82nd and Frankford on the NE corner is running 91 octane WITHOUT ethanol. My new station of choice!

I gas up at 7-11 on 4th and Frankford or 82 and Frankford United Express, I've had bad gas at most other places. 91 octane only!

Ya gotta go to a county with a small population to get ethanol-free gas.
Racetracks have the good stuff.

I've heard of folks getting good gas at racetracks one weekend and after a few miles took it the track the next weekend when the 'puter liked what was in the tank. Dunno if performance was to be gained but I DO know ethanol hurts mileage.

Ever thought of an E85 conversion? Dunno if there's much bang for the buck to be had.

Bring back Sunoco 260 to the local station. Some folks STILL drive L-88s and need the good gas.
