I'm hard pressed to come up with what they would call it other than Z/28. And I'm really confused as the why. The "HP" model will have a minimum of 550hp. I can't really believe GM is going to come out with a third Camaro model that tops the "HP" model. The only reason that I can think of, is maybe their waiting on the new alpha based car to use the Z/28 name on.

I think after all of the rumor and talk that Chevy wouldn't risk not calling this high powered camaro the Z28.
What does concern me a little is the potential for this car of having a sticker price over $60k with some of those goodies mentioned. Personally I could do without the shocks and the louvered hood (I don't really feel it on a z28 concept). I'm all for the powertrain, but IMO chevy should focus more on maximizing the power output so that at least it doesn't fall short of the existing Zl585 (which is already a super hot performer). This new Z is going to have a lot of work to do against the current slp camaro and the gt500, so more go and less glitter would be better IMO.

I'll have to see a production intent model before I get excited. Right now, it' still just numbers on paper.

Transmission and tires
No mention of transmission availability - too many high performance cars don't offer automatics - the faster/convenient choice.
Re tires: Make mine sanity - no riding on the rims. Just enough tire/wheel for the brakes to fit - not for encouraging the current fad. Maybe some tattoos someplace? |

I know some will be disappointed if the Z/28 nameplate isn't going to used on the upcoming "HP" edition Camaro, but stop and think of this point: If I told you back in 2005 that not only was GM going to bring back the Camaro, that it would look as good as this car does, perform as well as this one does, and offer a SS version with 426 HP, wouldn't you have been shocked into disbelief? Now factor in a "HP" model that has been the topic on this thread, and you just have to thank your lucky stars that you may ACTUALLY BUY THIS CAR next year!

Wow, alright, now here's a hot topic. That's what I'm talking about!!!!!
Before I proceed, I just want to state that my following few sentences are meant to be written in the most respectful demeanor and tone. With that being said I begin. Disregard the first four paragraphs if you don't have time, or not interested in a rant. I just want to get something out of my chest. It irks me to see a lot of 5th Gen owners trying to keep their mileage down, and trade up for the Z/28 or HP Edition/what-have-you ... I know, I know ... To each his own. However, I put 14,200+ miles on mine. Had her 10 months and 1 day now (delivered March 13th, 2010 - a day never to be forgotten). Out of those ten months, I drove her for about 8, or just short of that amount. The total amount of miles has stayed the same since I put her ("Sexy" Lexie Black SSRS - No mods yet) in my buddy's garage. I bought the car because I'm a FANATIC! I love her soooo much, that I'm going to drive her any chance I get. I live in Jersey, and although I've got well over 300,000+ miles under my belt and feel comfortable with driving in the snow with a FR vehicle; I simply am too proud an owner and most definitely extremely lucky & fortunate to have another car to beat on during winter. My point is that, I understand that we all want to have the car for as long as possible in the best shape possible. But please, do yourself and the car a favor ... Enjoy your life and your BEAST while you can. I can die a very happy man right this second because I've enjoyed my family, friends, and all my toys as much as possible. But I digress! Plenty of people have touched on the moniker/new name issue, and I don't really care enough to repeat most of what other people have already posted. In my opinion, Z/28 should just never be killed. However, this is how progress happens, so if GM decides to kill the Z/28 badge, it would not turn me away from the Camaro any less. Perhaps it's because I'm a technology geek, and have gotten used to all the name changes, i.e.; computers, phones, etc. I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but hey ... It is what it is. Here's my $0.02 though ... VCT (Variable Cam Timing), like that on the GT500/Explorer. Catch my drift? Technology is technology, and if GM wants it badly enough; they'll pay for the patents (if any) necessary to get this technology on their benches and start working with it on perhaps the Alpha, or Z/28. I would bet my lousy paying career, that they have already put this plan in motion. Especially since CAFE is pretty strict as it is. Let's face the facts here, VCT is AWESOME. No matter who you're rooting for, you can't deny that efficiency is what we all crave. Apple, Microsoft, Google (and others whom I'll spare in the sake of not wasting your time), have all been copying each other for years in the computer world in terms of operating systems, and functionality, etc. This is great if you ask me. Creates competition. Giving us, the consumer, more choices. In closing, I hope I didn't bore you with my obnoxiously long post. Just have a lot on my mind, but won't take up any more of your time. Peace in the Middle East. Shout out to Prima Donna, Jeff Bucknum and the Smokin' Bowties Camaro Club of NJ.
