thinking about doing the dash and door panel interior lights in my car. I have the cloth wrapped inserts and am wondering if it still works with those or if I need the painted plastic ones?

Nope the cloth won't work since they don't have the clear strip at the top of the panel, you need the painted ones.

Dash will work, since it is not shine through the appliques. but doors will not.

Yeah you could do this as well, but it won't match. You would have to take the cloth off and paint it. By the time you do that it would be easier to just by the dash pieces.
