rear diff noise returns

At the dealer now. Last week my check engine light came on. I brought it to my dealer they said the ecm had to be replaced. I came for that work this morning. With cooler temps the last few days I noticed moaning from the rear. I brought it to my service manager's attention. So they determined to go ahead and change the fluid. 3 to 4 more hours of waiting. They had to do the same thing last fall. Anyone else with this issue?

There are several threads on this, there is also a service bulletin. Make sure it is the one for the ZL1, the other one is not. I will try to find the thread.

Found it.

Thanks a lot. They are doing the procedure on my car now. My only question is will this be a yearly thing as they had to do the same thing last fall.

I hope not, mine has been quiet since I got the bulletin accomplished. It seems more prevelant in colder weather, we will see.

Have you performed the 1500 mile service? Oil Change, Differential Flush, I'd recommend a transmission flush as well.

Apologies to hear about the rear noise. I'm happy the vehicle is at the dealer for service. Please let me know how the diagnosis turns out. If additional assistance is needed, you can contact me privately.

Sincerely,

At 1500 miles is a complete waste of money. Hell I may never change the oil in the diff. Seems when people mess with it it makes noise.

It seems to have changed the behavior of my ZL1 entirely - everything is much smoother. So I wouldn't consider the money I spent as a waste at all... but to each is there own. When I get my SRT8's to 10k miles Ill be doing the Engine, Transmission, and Differential Flush.

Same here. They had mine for 9 days. Replaced diff plates, seals, and fluid. groaning came back next day. Have to bring her back asap for another shot at this. Kind of rediculous. Come on GM. My service department is stumped. They performed the TSB as written.

And I am in Hawaii, so cold weather is Not a factor here.

What is this groaning that you're talking about, are you talking about the wooshing/kind of whistling that comes from the rear end? Does it bother you that much.

My baby just started making a humming noise @ 2200 miles.
First noticed when making a slow speed U-turn a couple days ago.
Going to take her in soon...
