Supposedly it's not too bad to do it yourself. The spring is not under a lot of pressure.

Its all dependent on how many tools you have and how mechanically inclined you are. I used a spring press to remove and install the new lowering springs.

So is timing the bushings a part of the alignment? I just called a place, but they had no idea what I was talking about?

It's really easy timing the bushings is not that critical. A small tool box with common hand tools is enough, if you don't have air tools make sure you have some torx sockets for the center of the shock absorber. And no spring compressor is needed just a quick jolt nothing goes flying. And the shorter springs will be able to start the nut without tension.

Do they need to be fastened to a certain spec or can I just crawl under the car and fasten them myself?

Instructions don't say but T40 or T50 torx bits are what fit the top of shocks.

Get it aligned after, alignments are cheap.
