Owned a '71 Torino in high school, and also survived...barely. I am glad to see the Torino on the list, they were beasts in their day.

Never underestimate what a hit song will do for you, '409', 'Little GTO'. Those other cars, other than the 57 supercharged Tbird, wich I am assuming your referring to, were full size cars and the 'muscle' cars were intermediate size cars with large cubic inch engines. So if the 'pony' cars didn't make the list, those full size cars, while fast and powerful, are not not included because they don't qualify, you know that's right, Chris.

Fine, ignore them GTO was first, let me see..

1961 Chevy 409 (had so much identity the Beach Boys wrote a song). 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL, multi-carb 406. (Or a 1957 Ford with factory supercharging. If that wasn't a factory-built hotrod, what was?) 1963 Ford Galaxie 427. And back to butt-ugly with the 1962 Plymouth lineups with the RB Block 413s. OK, that car is rare so go with the 1963 Plymouth and the 426 Max Wedge....barring that how about the '64 Plymouth Commando 426 cars?

Some extremely ugly cars in that list. Mostly Mopars. Almost all a model year or more older than the GTO. And unloved :(
But none are muscle cars. Those are all full size cars, a muscle car is an intermediate size car...

Most real muscle car enthusiasts would pick the Chevelle SS (1970 LS6) or GSX Stage 1 (1970) as the top dog muscle car. But I can't argue with the GTO as it did start the whole muscle car era.
Yeah me personally when someone says muscle car, the first thing that pops in my head is a red 1970 Chevelle SS 454 with black stripes and a black vinyl roof, second is a 1969 Olds 442 W-30

Same here. This popped up last night, which sparked a 2 hour search for classic Chevelle, GTO etc builds. Not exactly original by any means, but is so cool.

According to most experts, the "first" muscle car was the 1949 Oldsmobile 88 as it took the new OHV Rocket V-8 from the 90 series and put it in the lighter body of the 70 series.

The Nova they list has same underpinnings as a first Gen f- body.. it was an economy car tho, yet it makes the list.. with a big motor, yet a BBC 1969 Camaro doesn't

I think the thread I started , G.reatest O.f A.ll T.ime, is a better and more complete list cultivated from the Camaro 5 members than this Maxim list. Obvious this maxim list is just a product of a couple of people, where the G.O.A.T. thread gives true enthusiasts a voice in the forum to have there say. Maybe I'll compile a top ten list off that thread and have Camaro 5 top ten list. Feel free to jump on that thread and voice your opinion!
